Daily Briefing – Special Edition

Here is a Special Edition of Shift’s Daily Briefing, as we give thanks to our readers for your loyal support!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to Shift’s loyal followers!  As always, we are truly grateful for your support, which allows us to provide a fresh perspective on our state’s political news and shift the public debate.

There are many things for which we are grateful this year.  The 2021 elections brought hope that change is finally coming to Washington State (and maybe even Seattle), as voters clearly demonstrated they are fed up with failed liberal policies which have resulted in mass homelessness across our state, skyrocketing crime rates, and tax increases which have made it more expensive to live and work in our state without addressing the problems they were implemented to solve. So, 2022 could be an historic year in our state.  We look forward to providing you with the news and perspective to help you stay informed.

Today we provide a special edition of the Daily Briefing.  We feature a guest editorial from the Initiative-1436 campaign, which seeks to make the state’s controversial long-term care tax much more fair to Washington citizens – and optional.  And, in case you missed them, we also provide some recent informative articles and interviews which have appeared in Shift during the past few weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and thank you again for your support!

Guest Editorial

The organizers of the Initiative-1436 provide some facts behind the measure to make the Washington State’s controversial new long-term care tax more fair – and voluntary. The campaign needs to collect 400,000 signatures before the end of the year to force members of the legislature to take a stand on this divisive issue, which unfairly taxes many workers for a benefit they will never be eligible to receive, and is a very bad investment for those who may eventually be eligible. The article provides arguments against the Democrats latest tax on workers and provides information on how you can help. (Click to read the Guest Editorial)

Shift Article

The Democrats’ latest partisan actions during the state’s redistricting process (in which they eliminated both the Republicans’ and the public’s views from the process) is the latest of many undemocratic acts which prove the political axiom that “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”  The Democrats have control of all three branches of state government, and they are using that power to suppress the views of the public. They have denied the public the right to testify in legislative hearings, removed the right to repeal legislation through a referendum, they have overturned election results, eliminated the legislative branch from having oversight on the governor’s pandemic-related decisions, and they have sought to eliminate elections where the voters might disagree with their liberal views. The Democrats’ redistricting commission strategy was a complete slap in the face to any member of the public who took time to participate in the commission’s public hearing. It is yet another reckless and selfish act which is setting very dangerous precedents for future authoritarian politicians.  (Click to read full Shift Article)

Local media consistently coddles the wealthy liberal establishment while Democrat politicians give $1.7 billion in taxpayer funds to help local media outlets pay their bills.  The Seattle Times fawns over State Senator Reuven Carlyle’s (D – Seattle) recent trip to Scotland to attend the exclusive receptions and hobnob with wealthy environmentalists at the COP26 gabfest.  The Times went so far as to publish a picture, which Senator Carlyle himself provided to the newspaper, of him gazing blissfully out the window of a train.  The article provide no criticism or counterpoint to Senator Carlyle’s extreme environmental views, or why it was worth the carbon emissions for him to jet over there.  Meanwhile, KING5 reporter Chris Daniels is tweeting his praise of U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D – Washington) for her efforts in directing $1.7 billion in tax dollars to the media outlets which are supposed to be objective in reporting politicians’ activities. Not exactly the “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable” credo journalists often claim they seek to fulfill. (Click to read full Shift Article)

Newsmaker Interview

Shift’s Newsmaker Interview is with Dr. Carol M. Swain, a former Princeton and Vanderbilt University professor, respected political commentator, author, and leading critic of the liberal’s racist “Critical Race Theory” (CRT).  It was announced earlier this month that Dr. Swain will be one of the featured speakers at the 2022 Roanoke Conference, which will again be an in-person gathering January 28th – 30th in beautiful Ocean Shores.  We speak with Dr. Swain about her new book (co-authored with Dr. Christopher J. Schorr) Black Eye for America in which she explains why CRT is racist, bad for America, and what we can do to counter its proliferation by liberal activists and institutions.  Dr. Swain describes to Shift readers how opposition to CRT was a leading factor in the Republican election victories two weeks ago in Virginia (her home state) and her plans for the upcoming Roanoke Conference. (Click to read full Newsmaker Interview

Shift Article

The Spokesman-Review’s liberal columnist Shawn Vestal went on another of his partisan rants, this time complaining about moderate and right-leaning contributors donating to Spokane candidates, even while pushing for liberal government employee unions to spend even more of their forced union dues on Spokane area campaigns.  It is typical liberal hypocrisy to believe campaign contributions to moderate and conservative candidates are evil, while all donations to liberal and extremist candidates are somehow noble. Vestal conveniently ignores the massive fundraising edge Democrats have in Washington State due to the large amounts of money which government employees spend to elect liberal politicians, who support efforts to increase the size and cost of all levels of government to the benefit of union bosses.
