Special Edition – 8th Congressional District Interviews

Washington State’s 8th Congressional District voters could decide who is in control of Congress.

8th Congressional District Interviews

This special edition of Shift’s Daily Briefing contains interviews with the three announced Republican candidates in the 8th Congressional District – King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn, veteran/business executive Jesse Jensen, and attorney/business operator Matt Larkin.

Voters in Washington State’s 8th Congressional District will be on the front lines in the national battle on whether the Democrats will continue to control Congress.  Democrats currently hold a 221 to 213 margin in the House of Representative.  Republicans believe one of their best chances to gain a seat is to replace two-term Democrat incumbent Representative Kim Schrier.

The maps approved by the Washington State Redistricting Committee show that the district’s current boundaries include Chelan and Kittitas counties and the eastern portions of King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties.

In order to help our readers decide who they will support, Shift has conducted the first interviews with the three Republican candidates who are seeking to challenge Representative Schrier.

We asked each of the candidates the same general questions to draw out each of the candidates’ general philosophies and the policy areas they plan to emphasize if elected.  Read the interviews and find out which candidate selected Dan Crenshaw, Abraham Lincoln, or Ronald Reagan as the public figure they most admire.

At the end of each interview, we provide links to each candidates’ website so you can volunteer or contribute.

Reagan Dunn

King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn is Shift’s Newsmaker Interview as we complete our series of speaking with the three Republican candidates who are running to challenge two-term incumbent Democrat U.S. Representative Kim Schrier in the 8th Congressional District.  Dunn is a former federal prosecutor and was just elected to his fifth term serving on the King County Council.  He is the son of former Washington State Party Chair and six-term U.S. Representative Jennifer Dunn.   Dunn blames the current inflation on “out-of-control spending in Washington D.C.” and states that voters need “to elect fiscally responsible leaders to Congress,” in order to recover from this economic crisis. Jesse Jensen

Jesse Jensen is Shift’s Newsmaker Interview as we sit down with each of the GOP candidates running to challenge two-term incumbent Representative Kim Schrier next November in the 8th Congressional District.  Jensen is a highly decorated combat veteran who served four tours in Afghanistan.  His first experience in politics was in 2020 when he surprised many political pundits by coming within 2.5% of defeating Representative Schrier despite being outspent $5.4 million to $850,000.  Jensen’s 2022 campaign is focused on reversing the current inflationary economy which he states was created by Democrats in Washington, D.C.   Jensen asserts that Representative Schrier needs to be replaced because “she’s put the far-Left agenda ahead of Washington families.”  (Click to read full interview with Jesse Jensen)

Matt Larkin

This is the first of three interviews Shift will be conducting with Republican candidates who are challenging incumbent Democrat U.S. Representative Kim Schrier in the 8th Congressional District.  Many people first heard about Matt Larkin when he challenged Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson in 2020. He is a former aide in the George W. Bush White House and local prosecutor.  He currently works for his family’s 550 employee company. Larkin jumped into the race last May stating it is important to be backing law enforcement as liberal policies have led to increased crime and homelessness. In his Shift Newsmaker Interview, Larkin asserts the current incumbent “votes with Nancy Pelosi and AOC every chance she gets,” and “has made it clear that she serves her party, not her constituents.” (Click to read full interview with Matt Larkin)
