Where does Inslee stand: WA Democrats’ platform even more liberal than DNC

Share:

The Washington State Democratic Party approved its new party platform in June. As Shift reported, though Bernie Sanders may have suffered some policy platform defeats at the national level, he could take comfort in the fact that at least one state embraced his socialist ideals almost completely.

Washington State Democrats were only too happy to follow Sanders’ policy prescriptions. Indeed, it’s quite easy to see that the state party’s platform is more liberal (by a lot) than the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) official platform.

For anyone arguing otherwise, here’s five far-Left policy positions included in the state platform that did not make the cut nationally:

1. Jay Inslee’s Democrat includes a call for a single-payer healthcare system while the DNC platform keeps Obamacare (with an expansion on taxpayer-funded health insurance).

2. Jay Inslee’s Democrat platform includes a call for a carbon tax, while the DNC platform stops just short of advocating a job-killing carbon tax.

3. Jay Inslee’s Democrat platform endorses using taxpayer money for their campaigns… that’s an issue special to our state (thus far).

4. Jay Inslee’s Democrat platform strongly opposes public charter schools while the DNC platform stops short of outright opposition, but states that charter schools cannot “destabilize traditional public schools.”

5. While not comparable to the national level, we’d be remiss not to include the fact that the Washington Democrats’ party platform calls for multiple state income taxes.

So the question must be asked of Jay Inslee, where do you stand on your state and national platforms?
