WA Democrats’ party platform endorses still more taxes – including on carbon

This month, the Washington State Democratic Party approved its new party platform. As Shift reported, the latest version of Democrats’ party platform lists multiple forms of a state income tax as key objectives. And, the liberals even endorse the use of taxpayer money for their campaigns.

But, a Democrat party platform would not be living up to the party’s far-Left standards without some endorsement of an extreme “green” scheme to fight climate change but that won’t actually work to decrease carbon emissions. Washington Democrats did not disappoint, as their platform reads:

“Promoting the implementation of a price on carbon dioxide pollution to internalize the costs of increased air pollution and climate change from fossil fuels because no significant progress can be made on transitioning away from fossil fuels until they are significantly taxed on the pollution they are creating in the environment.”

In other words, the party is calling for a tax on carbon – an even more job-killing approach than the carbon rule regulations Jay Inslee wants to impose on the state. We can assume (not that we did not before reading the platform) that Democrats fully support the carbon scheme Inslee wants to jam through by executive order since the Legislature would not pass his “green” agenda.

Never mind that Inslee’s carbon rule gives companies an incentive to suspend operations in Washington State. Or, that working families will pay more for everything from what they pay at the pump to the cost to heat their homes to consumer goods they purchase.

No thought is given to the fact that Washington is a minuscule fraction of 1% of global emissions. Achieving 1995 levels (the ultimate pursuit of Inslee’s carbon rule) would only serve to reduce that insignificant fraction to an even more insignificant fraction.

In other words, there are no “societal benefits.” There are just costs to our citizens and our state’s economy.

Democrats just want to push their purely ideological extreme “green” agenda — no matter the consequences. Washington Democrats’ platform is just more of the same.
