Democrats evidently don’t care that they are breaking the law when they use taxpayer funds to pay for campaign activities.

Shift Article

Governor Jay Inslee and Democrat lawmakers will likely break the law again today as they continue to use public funds to conduct obvious and partisan campaign activities.  An ethics complaint was filed earlier this week against the governor and several Democrat legislators for their previous illegal use of taxpayer dollars to promote Democrat campaigns. The governor has held several partisan media events on abortion (seemingly the only issue all Democrats feel comfortable talking about this campaign season, since their policies on crime, homelessness, drugs, housing costs, state income taxes, more government spending, long-term care payroll taxes, higher energy costs, tearing down dams, restricting agriculture, vaccine mandates, “emergency” powers, etc., have either failed or are very unpopular) which were paid for with public funds. Today the governor is hoping to prop up the struggling campaign of incumbent Democrat Senator Claire Wilson (who is being challenged by Republican Linda Kochmar) by holding a pro-abortion media event in Federal Way. Like the other events, this one was organized by government workers and is paid for with public funds. (Click to read full Shift article)

Nearly all campaigns will be conducting Get-Out-The-Vote activities this weekend, and they could all use your assistance.  Since neither the Huskies nor Cougars have games this weekend, you can use that free time to help change the direction of Washington State. Many candidates, such as Bill Boyce running for Senate in the 47th Legislative District, will be out doorbelling.  Others will be phone banking, and others will be waving signs.  All of them need volunteers, as they are down to the final 10 days of the 2022 campaign.  Polls are showing many key races are very tight, as the Republicans are hoping to take control of the Washington State Senate and/or State House of Representatives. To find out volunteer activities in your community, contact your local party or click on the “Senate” and/or “House” links above.  (Bill Boyce for Senate, State Senate candidates, and State House candidates)

A number of employers testified against the Inslee Administration proposal to increase workers compensation rates by 4.8% at a Washington State Department of Labor and Industry hearing on Wednesday.  A spokesman for the Washington State Farm Bureau said this is one more additional cost that Inslee’s state government is imposing on Washington’s family farms which reduce their ability to compete against products from other states.  Home builders said that the rate increase will make the state’s housing shortage even worse, and it will prevent many first-time home buyers from being able to afford making the long-term investment of purchasing a home. The new rates will be determined on November 30, and they will go into effect at the start of the new year.  (The Center Square)

It is sad to read an article in the latest Asian Weekly detailing the loss of dozens of businesses in Seattle’s Chinatown International District (CID) neighborhood due to failed liberal policies on crime and homelessness. What was once a vibrant and fun neighborhood that people from around the region felt safe visiting has now been taken over by homeless encampments and (according to Asian Weekly) 15 homeless shelters.  Violent crime and property damage are now a regular occurrence. The neighborhood has repeatedly sought more police presence and the removal of encampments. After a fire at an encampment on Washington State Department of Transportation property threatened buildings where many businesses were located, the community sent a petition to the Inslee Administration asking that the encampment be removed.  According to one CID community leader, “Nothing has been done so far.”

Nearly all of the businesses would prefer to stay open and remain part of the community. But many have closed or moved to the suburbs after their employees and customers have been attacked. When police have increased their visibility with emphasis patrols, criminal activity simply moves a few blocks to avoid the officers. (Asian Weekly)

Managers for Everett’s Fred Meyer stores pleaded with the Everett City Council for more police assistance due to the rapidly increasing crime rate and drug use resulting from liberal anti-police package passed by the Democrats in the Washington Legislature. Since the Democrats have decriminalized possession of such lethal drugs as meth and fentanyl, Fred Meyer parking lots have often become open-air drug markets. Store managers testified yesterday at a city council hearing that they find needles and other drug paraphernalia in their parking lots, store aisles, and restrooms.  Shoplifting has increased as drug addicts steal merchandise to pay for their drugs. Employees have had their vehicles stolen and vandalized, and one worker was abducted waiting for a bus. (MyNorthwest)

Students, instructors, and administrators of Seattle’s college system are upset that budget analysts severely erred when they previously forecast that the system was facing a $17 million deficit at the start of the 2021 school year.  Recently it was determined that analysts had miscalculated figures and the system was only short $3 million. While this is good news now, the problem is many students did not take classes in programs (most notably in the Maritime Academy, Wood Technology Center, the Culinary Arts, and Apparel Design and Development programs) which were rumored to be cut and several employees left for other jobs due to fears of major budget cuts. Dramatic video surveillance video shows just how brazen many criminals have become in Washington State.  A car is seen crashing through the front and out through the back of a Tacoma cannabis store and then five criminals follow in the hole that was created.  They exchanged gunfire with a security guard as they proceeded to fill up bags with merchandise.  This burglary occurred at 2:30 Friday morning at a marijuana retailer near the corner of South Tacoma Way and Pacific Avenue.  Reports do not indicate if the car used was stolen. Yakima area restaurant operators discuss the difficulties they are facing from the rapidly increasing price of food (up an incredible 11.2% in the past year) and the necessity to raise wages to keep longtime employees who are also struggling due to high inflation caused by Democrat policies.  While restaurant owners must increase menu prices to pay for the higher business costs, they are fearful this will scare off customers.  Some restaurant owners have reduced their own wages or business profits to keep their prices affordable.  Many of the small businesses will need to lay off workers at the start of the new year due to the government-mandated leap in minimum wage.

These are the small employers and struggling workers which Republicans were seeking to help during the last legislative session by proposing tax relief using the billions in surplus tax revenue in the state’s coffers.  Unfortunately, Governor Inslee and the Democrat legislative majority chose to ignore these concerns because it was more important to them to grow the size of government (even though the cost of state government has more than doubled since Governor Inslee was elected) and provide their campaign contributors in the state employee unions with their fifth pay raise in four years. We can expect to see many small local restaurants close due to rapid inflation caused by liberal policies and the refusal of Democrat lawmakers to provide them with tax relief.  (Yakima Herald Republic)
