IF YOU HAVE TO USE A FLOW CHART TO EXPLAIN WHEN YOU MIGHT ENFORCE YOUR PUBLIC USE DRUG LAW, YOU DON’T REALLY HAVE A PUBLIC USE DRUG LAW
MAYOR HARRELL’S EXECUTIVE ORDER ON PUBLIC DRUG USE DOESN’T MAKE PUBLIC DRUG USE ILLEGAL
Shift has covered, often with mild amusement, the knots that Seattle politicians have been tying themselves into rationalizing why public smoking of fentanyl is fine with them. Now, courtesy of KUOW, we have a flow chart providing guidance after “Mayor Bruce Harrell issued an executive order that explains how police should enforce Seattle’s new drug ordinance… The order says police should only arrest people if they determine that someone poses a danger to others.”
You can decide for yourself if Mayor Harrell’s order will help police “figure out how to manage the open use of narcotics in city buses, trains, parks, and practically every other public space” here… Shift, KUOW.
MAKING ENERGY MORE EXPENSIVE ONE STEP AT A TIME – IT’S THE INSLEE WAY
The state of Washington is making energy more expensive in so many different ways that it is hard for even Shift to keep up. But when the state starts teaming up with the federal government, it can get really expensive, as is pointed out in a Chronicle op-ed that “Gov. Jay Inslee inappropriately used our state’s building codes to ban natural gas in new homes and commercial buildings. Now, the Biden Administration is going a step further, issuing rules that drastically clamp down on natural gas used in heating and air conditioning units.”
Most ironically, both the state and the feds claim to be acting out of environmental concerns, yet “actions by both Biden and Inslee overlook significant air quality improvements resulting from switching to cleaner burning natural gas.” Read on to understand how a natural gas ban is really a “senseless attack (that) endangers American farms, families and factories” here… Daily Chronicle.
REMEMBER – DEMOCRATS DON’T THINK AUTO THEFT IS REALLY A CRIME WORTH PURSUING
It has sadly become the norm to hear a daily story about a different stolen car crime – whether it’s a drive-by shooting or ramming a retail store, stolen vehicles are the tool of choice for Washington criminals thanks to Democrats tilting the legal scales in favor of the criminals. The (Tacoma) News Tribune points out just how common it is, writing that “six vehicles were stolen outside the Tacoma Mall on a single day last week” and that “as of Oct. 1, there have been 133 thefts reported — already the highest total in any year dating back to 2018.”
You can read on for a long list of reasons why this is so, provided by Sgt. Jeff Carroll of the Puget Sound Auto Theft Task Force, including “a 2021 state law restricted law enforcement from interviewing juveniles without attorney approval; young people aren’t being held in juvenile detention for stolen vehicle possession; and a wave of law enforcement officers have left the profession” here… (Tacoma) News Tribune.
EVEN THE LEFT DOESN’T TRUST THE INSLEE ADMINISTRATION TO COUNT CORRECTLY
There must be an awful lot of money being fought over when best buddies start fighting each other in public. That’s the underlying story behind the Seattle Times providing a platform for a leading social justice warrior to tell Governor Jay Inslee that “science is only useful if you make use of the data” in criticizing the Democrats’ signature environmental work.
The “science” in question is really about how much money from the new carbon tax is being funneled to which Democrat special interest groups. The governor doesn’t deny short-changing some groups when it comes to the surplus billions rolling in from his gouging of Washington drivers, but he does roll out a flak to explain that “we do the math really differently.” You can get even more funny math here… Seattle Times.
THIS IS WHY WA STATE GOVERNMENT CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS – IT CAN’T EVEN FOLLOW ITS OWN RULES
Shift will pass on with little comment this nugget of truth about how little the people running Washington State government care about following the policies they mandate for others. Consider this Capital Press story about a 2009 law requiring that the state itself utilize 20% biodiesel across its use of diesel and how that “law has never been followed or enforced. Each year, the Department of Enterprise Services issues a report. According to the report for 2022, the state fell short for the 14th straight year.”
But fear not, since the state does not, because as the Press points out, “unlike climate laws that apply to the private sector, such as cap-and-trade, lawmakers did not provide for penalties for not complying with the 20% biodiesel standard.” You can read more about state double standards here… Capital Press.
