YOU ALWAYS KNOW WHERE WA DEMOCRATS HAVE FAILED – IT’S WHERE THEY ARE NOW PROPOSING LAWS TO FIX WHAT THEY BROKE
DEMOCRATS PRIORITIZE PROTECTING POT SHOPS AND THE CAR THIEVES THAT RAM THEM
The Democrats running Olympia are so hypocritical so often that they can’t recognize their own policy incompetence even when it rams a stolen car through their front door. That’s the takeaway from the KING 5 news that “SB 6133 passed through the Senate Law and Justice Committee on Tuesday” as liberals rushed through a bill to protect pot shops from the thieves who ram cars into them.
A more complete story of the Democrats seemingly being tough-on-crime comes from Axios Seattle’s coverage of the “Senate Democrats prioritizing a hearing to establish tougher penalties for criminals who are ‘convicted of robbing a cannabis store as part of a group, or if a person uses a vehicle to smash into the business.’”
The Democrats in Olympia have certainly been “part of a group” that has provided the stolen-car weapon of choice for “pot shop robberies, which cannabis industry leaders say have been happening at an alarming rate.” However, the lefty legislators don’t even recognize that if they had not made it illegal for police to pursue car thieves back in 2021, the rash of stolen cars being rammed into pot shops would not be a problem that merited a public hearing before any of the six legislative initiatives which the Democrats are ignoring… KING 5, Axios-Seattle.
ANOTHER DAM HEARING IN WASHINGTON DC
Shift has long covered how Governor Jay Inslee has teamed with the Biden administration to stack the deck against farmers and other Eastern Washington families to achieve the extreme environmental dream of ripping out the four Lower Snake River dams. The latest twist coming from the Spokesman Review in the “long-running debate over the future of the Lower Snake River dams came to the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, as House Republicans railed against an agreement the Biden administration reached in December with the states of Washington and Oregon and four Northwest tribes” to prepare the dams for removal.
Of course, Democrats and their allies can’t admit in an election year that they will rip out the dams, so one leader accuses anyone who disagrees with them of “misinformation” while making the obviously false statement that “the agreement would have nearly no impact on current energy rates.” Fortunately, someone is willing to stand up for our state’s economic interests, as “Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a Spokane Republican who chairs the House Energy and Commerce Committee, accused the (administration) of cutting ‘a secret back-room deal to please radical environmentalists’ and warned that removing the dams would ‘destroy the lives of the people I represent.’”
You can read on for some deep thinking by Democrat Congresswoman Kim Schrier, who has really contemplated her position on this issue, and declared “I’ve long said that the issue of the Lower Snake River dams is incredibly complex” here… Shift, Spokesman-Review.
DEMOCRATS TEST A NEW GET-OUT-THE-VOTE PROGRAM: JUST SEND OUT CHECKS EVERY MONTH
Democrat legislators are running out of ways to get people to vote for them, or even to turn out to vote for anybody, so they want to try a new tactic, according to the Washington State Standard – sending “7,500 low-income state residents recurring cash payments for two years, no strings attached.” That’s because, after 40 consecutive years of Democrat governors here, basic economic security “is not the reality for many people in Washington state.”
That’s according to Democrat Senator Claudia Kaufman, who wants the state to meet the needs of everybody in the state, starting with her “Evergreen Basic Income Pilot Program (which) would pay qualifying participants a monthly amount equal to the fair market rent for a two-bedroom apartment where the participant lives.” Read on for more about this bad Democrat idea that sounds like it came (as Shift has covered) out of Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s vote-buying factory here… Washington State Standard, Shift.
SPOKANE COUNCIL LEFTISTS SHOW CITY WHAT THEY ARE MADE OF – SPITE
Rational voters in Spokane have lived under a Democrat-controlled city council for several years, and they knew the situation got worse with the results of November’s election. What they might not have expected was the sheer partisan spite the Spokesman-Review reports seems to be the trademark of the new Spokane City Council, as demonstrated by the always hyper-partisan Councilman Zack Zappone claiming “reality is that elections have consequences, and the electorate has spoken that they want a new direction,” and he has decided that new direction is keeping people he doesn’t like from serving on important committees.
Of course, this new spiteful approach was tipped off last week when one of the new lefties on the council decided that one of his colleagues was a racist, though after Councilman Paul Dillon learned a few facts, he offered a mealy-mouthed apology this week, saying “I think I would have rethought what I said had I known that was true.” Don’t expect such contrition from the ethically challenged Councilman Zappone, who doesn’t care much for the truth as Shift has covered before… Spokesman-Review, Shift.
DEMOCRATS WILL WASTE THEIR TIME TALKING ABOUT HOSTILE ARCHITECTURE, AS OPPOSED TO HOSTILE PEOPLE STEALING YOUR CARS (I-2113)
Given that the Democrats in Olympia are refusing to follow their constitutional duty and act on the citizen initiatives delivered to them by the Democrat Secretary of State, it seems appropriate to look at the bills that the liberals think are more deserving of a public hearing. One such ironic example is the debate over “hostile architecture,” which liberals define as anything that local governments might put in a public place to keep people from sleeping there, as covered by Axios-Seattle.
State Senator Liz Lovelett, the Democrat sponsor of this not-ready-for-prime-time bill, bizarrely admitted to “mixed feelings” over her bad idea since “(H)aving people locating where they are that close to folks who are driving 80 miles per hour seems kind of inherently unsafe,” even though state property is exempt from her silly bill. That didn’t stop the state from saying “it will continue to use boulders to discourage camping in limited circumstances.”… Axios-Seattle.
NO, YOU DON’T
The headline below from the Olympian deserves a simple headline response (see above): “I’m in prison because I committed a crime. In WA, people like me deserve to vote”… Olympian.
