HOMELESSNESS INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX FOCUSED ON $$$, NOT SOLUTIONS.
TIMES JUST NOTICED THAT LIBERALS PREFER ENDLESS “SOCIAL SERVICE” OVERHEAD SPENDING TO ACTUALLY SOLVING PROBLEMS
It has taken a while, but the Seattle Times editorial board took a look down Third Avenue and found almost as many social service agencies draining money out of the city’s budget as there were homeless people actually being helped out of their situation. Accidentally showing the depth of the problem was clearly clueless City Councilman Andrew Lewis, who said, “I would say that everyone who is active on Third Avenue does have a clearly delineated role,” before gassing up his light and adding, “There’s a lot of folks, but there’s not a ton of overlap in the responsibilities.”
And by “not a ton,” Lewis means it’s not his money being wasted. The Times provided some perspective on how much money can be wasted just by listing how many different hands were in the taxpayers’ pockets: “Third Avenue Project… overseen by Purpose Dignity Action (formerly known as the Public Defender Association). … We Deliver Care (not to be confused with JustCare, which does housing outreach, or We Heart Seattle, which focuses on encampment cleanup) … Case management nonprofit LEAD is also involved.”
As the editorial board summed up, “To get the most from taxpayer dollars, government funders ought to ensure that investments go to services instead of the support systems of dozens of groups aiming to accomplish the same goals.” To learn more about the alphabet soup of agencies spending money to seemingly make the homelessness problem worse, read on here… (Seattle Times)
NO CHANGE MEANS NO CHANGE AT PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE
What is it about the King County Prosecutor’s Office that allows it to attract attention mainly for various personnel failings and extreme political agendas but rarely for doing any prosecution things? Obviously, the last election’s momentous change from the incumbent who has pushed the agency down the last 15 years in exchange for his top assistant for that downward spiral has mattered little.
A detailed piece in Crosscut uncovers current controversies festering under new Prosecutor Leesa Manion, like “self-dealing and unfair advancement by senior staff,” on the heels of “acknowledged ethical violations in 2021 as part of settling a nepotism complaint.” It takes a while to unsort this tawdry tale, but you can try here… (Crosscut)
AG FERGUSON LEADS THE WAY – IN HIDING INFORMATION FROM THE PUBLIC
Rarely do you see a member of the state’s legal profession publicly pick on incumbent Attorney General Bob Ferguson for his administration of the office since he has lots of lawyers with unlimited budgets. But one Joan Mell, a board member of the Washington Coalition for Open Government, took to the editorial pages of the Seattle Times to suggest that “You would think that, given (Bob Ferguson’s) role as the people’s attorney, his agency would outperform all other agencies on Public Records Act compliance. But it does not, and he does not seem to care.”
But the pounding did not stop there, with attorney Mell continuing, “I am a lawyer who has litigated against the government for more than three decades. In one politically charged case, a potential juror commented about the AG’s prolific lawsuits saying, ‘that is why they call him Bobbie Sue.’” You can find out why that nickname is a keeper and uncover more of what the AG doesn’t want you to know by reading here…
COMING SOON TO A CUL-DE-SAC NEAR YOU – THE SIXPLEX!
Legislative Democrats love to celebrate “lived experiences” as a guiding principle in policy-making, except, as KOMO reports, when someone else is living the experience and the Olympia crowd wants to take control. That’s the story of House Bill 1110, which will “override local zoning rules that have long kept large areas in cities for only single-family homes” and “legalize duplexes and fourplexes in most neighborhoods in nearly every Washington city.” To learn why Olympia Democrats think local Democrats can’t manage their own cities, read here…(KOMO)
IF STATE SENATOR PATTY KUDERER WANTED TO HEAR YOUR OPINION, SHE WOULD TELL IT TO YOU
If you listen to State Senator Patty Kuderer about how confused voters are about tax advisory votes, you’d have to wonder how voters could be smart enough to put such a legislative wizard as her in office in the first place. As Jason Rantz reported, Kuderer bragged that under Democrat control, the taxpayer-approved advisory votes “have no real impact on policy-making” because Democrats ignore them and pass more taxes. Instead, the votes of the people are just “anti-tax propaganda.” To learn more about the propaganda Sen. Kuderer does want you to have, you can read on… (MyNorthwest)
STOCK UP WHILE YOU CAN
The nanny state that is the Democrat-dominated Washington State legislature really wants to limit the hard decisions you have to deal with in the future. So they have courageously agreed, as KUOW reported, on “a measure to phase out hotels’ use of single-use plastics, such as tiny shampoo and lotion bottles.” More about how Olympia Democrats will save us from ourselves here… (KUOW)
