Memorial Day 2020 – Special Edition

Inslee's Partisan Politics Hurting Washington

Governor Inslee has refused to respond to nearly all letters sent to him by Republican lawmakers. He has disbanded the bi-partisan Business Recovery Legislative Task Force and replaced it with “advisory groups” made up of only campaign contributors, liberal special interest groups, and government employees. He has formed the Western States Pact made up of only Democrat governors and ignored our Idaho neighbors and our trading partners in Alaska because they have Republican governors. Inslee has missed the unique opportunity to be a leader to unite Washingtonians in a common battle and has instead chosen to use other people’s pain and suffering to promote his divisive political agenda. Inslee Hiding from Answering Questions about Historic Fraud Case

(We posted this comment on Facebook over the weekend and it was forwarded by over 4,400 people and viewed by more than 275,000.)

While Governor Jay Inslee has been in front of the cameras for nearly all COVID-19 outbreak announcements by the state, the governor was nowhere to be found when it was revealed his Employment Security Department (ESD) was the victim of one of the largest scams perpetrated in United States history.

Federal agents notified state officials that Inslee’s ESD had processed and mailed “hundreds of millions of dollars” in fraudulent unemployment benefits to a “well organized Nigerian fraud ring.”

Instead of standing before the cameras to explain why his administration allowed this historic theft to take place, Inslee quickly canceled his previously planned media event (providing a false excuse for the cancellation) and hid while pushing his department chief Suzi LeVine out to inform Washington citizens that their tax money was now in the accounts of foreign criminals.

The lack of efficient oversite by the Inslee Administration has not only cost the state hundreds of millions of dollars, but it also has slowed down the process of sending much needed relief to the thousands of Washington workers who have lost their wages.

This is a screw up on a massive scale. Governor Jay Inslee not only needs to explain why this happened under his watch, but also why he has hidden and not been accountable to Washington taxpayers.

Newsmaker Interview

3rd District U.S. Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Camas) shares with Shift readers her views on the federal COVID-19 response and provides us with an update on a couple of the significant issues she is working on for Southwest Washington. The Congresswoman discuss her efforts to help small businesses during the coronavirus outbreak and why she opposed Nancy Pelosi’s $3 trillion dollar “wish list” package.  Herrera Beutler also updates us on her efforts to increase the region’s salmon population, the I-5 Columbia River bridge, and maternity health.  We also ask the representative a couple of questions about the 2020 campaign and the Washington State Democrats’ “desperate” attacks on her. Nigerian Fraud Ring Exposes Inslee's Poor Management

Nigerian criminals found an easy mark in Washington State as Governor Jay Inslee’s administration cost Washington taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars. This is one of the greatest scams in American history.  The theft of taxpayer funds is bad enough, but the delay in providing much-needed benefits to Washington residents who have lost their wages, borders on being cruel. Thus far, Governor Inslee has failed to provide answers to why his administration allowed this to take place. (Shift)
