News you can use: A trillion in new taxes, no deficit reduction – a budget only Democrats could love

Yesterday we pointed out that President Obama’s budget proposal wasn’t likely to go very far – and now we know why.  It wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, but rather as Time magazine reported it was “a partisan opus”.

Of course Senator Patty Murray and her fellow DC Democrats had to be careful about being supportive of the Obama budget, given he is the leader of their party and all, since she had already announced that her Budget Committee was done working for the year, and would not produce a budget bill this year. However, she did provide a soundbite, which really amounted to nothing given that’s what she has said her committee will do this year:

“The two-year bipartisan budget deal signed into law in December was a strong step in the right direction, but it shouldn’t be the last step we take.”

Meanwhile, the Obama approach of  “let’s raise taxes and spend all the money we can” was taken to heart by Washington State House Democrats, who spent the day raising taxes of their own and continuing to make sure that public education was not on the top of the funding list – instead their campaign funders were still on top.
