The United States Supreme Court’s recent decision to remove certain limits on federal campaign contributions—namely, eliminating all restrictions on the total number of candidates an individual can contribute to during one election season—somehow managed to provoke the ire of liberals. Democrats from Hillary Clinton to Washington State Democrats Chair Jaxon Ravens have made their displeasure known. Statements of concern—and gross exaggeration—include,
“With the rate the Supreme Court is going, there will only be three or four people in the whole country that have to finance our entire political system by the time they are done.” – Hillary Clinton
“All it does is take away people’s rights because, as you know, the Koch brothers are trying to buy America.” –Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid
Almost immediately, Democrats began to generate partisan bickering over the Court’s decision by setting their sights on their favorite target: the Koch brothers. Since then, Republicans in Congress continue to face accusations of their desire to establish a “Koch-topia” or of being “addicted to Koch” by their name-calling counterparts.
Democrats glimpsed an opportunity to take a cue from Harry Reid and go on a “Koch brothers are un-American” political fear-mongering attack, and they took it. We would like to reciprocate with facts.
So, here are the top three sketchiest things liberal California billionaire Tom Steyer has done to influence not just federal elections in Washington State, but state elections as well.
- Breaking Washington State campaign finance laws by pumping millions of dollars into NextGEN PAC. His goal? To influence Washington State politics.
- Making last year’s 26th District state senate race the most expense in Washington State history. Hiding his money in NextGen PAC, Steyer tried—but ultimately failed—to prop up the appointed liberal incumbent Nathan Schlicher against now State Sen. Jan Angel.
- Announcing, on the front page of the New York Times, his intention to spend $100 million in 2014 to impact elections across the country, including Washington State. Of course, Steyer made his intentions known right after having avoided a full-fledged PDC investigation into his shady contributions to Washington PACs.
Lesson learned? Democrats are hypocrites who enjoy rolling around in their messy pig-“Stey.” Don’t believe the #1 liberal lie.
