JUNETEENTH CELEBRATIONS STILL GOING STRONG
A reminder from the team at Shift (the members of which are in the process of scattering for a two-week break until after the 4th of July) that there are still chances to join others at Juneteenth activities. In case you need the primer, KIRO 7 reports “June 19 marks the day slavery was ended in the United States. There are several events in store to celebrate Juneteenth on Monday around Western Washington.” If you receive this email too late tonight, you can check out multi-day programs, like the “Northwest African American Museum (which) is hosting a three-day event” here… KIRO 7.
ANOTHER REMINDER OF JAY INSLEE’S FAILED ADMINISTATION OF THE STATE’S MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM
You would need more than all of your fingers and toes to count up the many administrative failures that have dogged Governor Jay Inslee’s decade-plus tenure in Olympia. But perhaps no other non-tax issue has generated more controversy, and deservedly drawn more scorn, than Inslee’s lax approach to dealing with mental health, as Shift has covered.
And on this holiday Monday, it’s worth reminding people that Inslee and the Democrats’ poor policy choices continue causing very painful consequences which are readily apparent in this Washington State Standard piece highlighting “that roughly 10% of the state’s hospital beds are occupied by patients who have barriers to being discharged”. You can read why the Inslee administration thinks we should “let new spending approved in recent years take effect before lawmakers think about changing the guardianship process” which is causing this misery here… Shift, Washington State Standard.
SEATTLE CITY LEADERS STAND WITH GROUP STANDING AGAINST SEATTLE POLICE
You might think that the daily reminders of murder and mayhem in downtown Seattle – and other violence surging throughout the state which Shift has unfortunately been featuring every day – might cause Seattle city officials and the partisan interest groups which keep them in office to start focusing on public safety instead of public virtue signaling. How wrong you would be for having that thought, given the semi-controversy about uniformed police officers being prohibited from joining a public parade. You can read MyNorthwest reminder that “the queer community’s long history of distrust of law enforcement” results in a political interest group’s bigoted actions being endorsed by Seattle’s elected officials here… Shift, MyNorthwest.
LYNNWOOD RECEIVES A TASTE OF SEATTLE’S FAR-LEFT THUGGERY
A weekend seemingly filled with event-inspired political actions sent Seattle-style leftist intimidation North, with the Lynnwood Times reporting that a “highly anticipated rally surrounding the controversial court order against the Olympus Spa policy surrounding biological women took place Saturday afternoon at the Lynnwood Event Center. The rally was marked by a significant police presence, as fears of physical confrontation ran high among both protesters and counter-protesters.”
You can read about how “(P)ro-antifa posts on social media called for physical confrontation against pro-female only space demonstrators” and how other Seattle-style fun played out here … Shift, Lynnwood Times.
LAST WEEK'S NEWSMAKER INTERVIEW...
Sean O’Brien, the new Eastern Washington Director for the Washington Policy Center (WPC), joined us for last week’s Newsmaker Interview. O’Brien returned to Washington state after spending eight years in Washington, D.C. as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Dan Newhouse (R – Sunnyside) and as the Executive Director for the Congressional Western Caucus. Among other topics, O’Brien reflected on how Governor Jay Inslee misled the public about the dramatic increase in the price of gas caused by his cap-and-trade policies and how his administration failed to follow the law to exempt Washington state farmers from the significant (more 45 cents a gallon so far) rate increase.
