With extra revenue from the Soda Tax in their coffers, Seattle politicians act like sharks going after chum.

Multiple area beaches shut down because of poop water. Naturally, the first question people might have is why so much poop in the water? As expected, a report from January 2019 cites homeless encampments as a significant factor in contributing to the amount of fecal material in our waters. (Shift WA)
Kshama Sawant’s Money (Part One). What do NYC government worker Daniel Kroop, Los Angeles social justice program manager Sarah Chang, and University of Arkansas instructor Chad Kieffer all have in common? They are all trying to influence the 2019 vote for Seattle City Council by sending contributions to Kshama Sawant’s campaign. (Shift WA)
“I Am Antifa”: The Militant Faction of the New Left. In news you may have missed over the weekend due to underreporting, an armed left-wing activist attempted to blow up the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma with a 500-gallon propane tank bomb. The federal facility was one of several sites across the country where protesters gathered for “Lights for Liberty: To End Human Concentration Camps” events. (Shift WA)

Jay Inslee postponed payments to make his 2nd quarter FEC financial report look better than it was. Inslee was one of four presidential candidates listed in a national story on campaigns who delayed monthly payments at the end of the second quarter. Thus the picture that Inslee and his staff paint of them losing $100,000 from April thru June is actually a rosy picture compared to their reality of being deeper in the red. (The Daily Beast)
Remember that July 11th puff piece the Seattle Times wrote about Public Lands Commissioner Hilary Franz and her possible run for governor? It is the article that portrayed Franz as a moderate and failed to mention her controversial past with the radical group Futurewise. On Monday, Franz blasted out the full article in a fundraising email. Thus, allowing the Seattle Times do her dirty work of saying she wants to be governor while not appearing to personally offend the person currently sitting in the Governors mansion (or more accurately, sitting on a plane to another campaign stop with a taxpayer funded security team). Only in Seattle can an extra $7 million in tax revenue be considered a $7 million shortfall. The recently enacted Soda Tax in Seattle generated $23 million (mostly from lower income households). This is approximately $7 million more than projected. Mayor Jenny Durkin took that extra money and spent it on items in the General Fund and not on the items designated for the Soda Tax funds. The City Council didn’t like this and on Monday voted to have ALL future money from the Soda Tax go towards the designated programs. (MyNorthwest)

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife have been rebuilding the sturgeon population in Lake Roosevelt and in the upper Columbia River. Since the early 2000 they have been taking young sturgeon from the lake and raising them at nearby Sherman Creek Hatchery before releasing them back into the lake. (KXLY)
