The efforts by Jay Inslee and his Democrat allies to use outside influences to try and take back a State Senate majority are well known, perhaps most dramatically in the failure of California billionaire Tom Steyer’s attempt to buy Inslee the majority in 2014, as Shift reported then. Previous failures aren’t stopping the liberals, however.
The State Labor Council is leading the charge to return the State Senate to its old tax-raising, big-government ways this year in King County’s 41st District, where State Senator Steve Litzow has been a leader on public education issues since first getting elected in 2010. Litzow has been targeted by the Democrats before, in 2010 and 2012, and beaten back their challenges.
This year the Democrats and their special interest campaign donors like the State Labor Council have recruited a first-time candidate with no record (Lisa Wellman), in hopes they can sneak her past the voters by spending big money falsely attacking Litzow, and gave a hint of that strategy by dropping big money in the primary on an attack PAC called “New Direction”.
The unions will start on the general election low road in earnest this week, with the first of their so-called ‘Labor Neighbor’ blitzes against Litzow. “The general election efforts of Labor Neighbor, the grassroots member-to-member political action program of the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, kick off this Saturday, Sept. 17. A neighborhood walk will be held to inform union members about labor-endorsed State Senate candidate Lisa Wellman.”
Of course, as is apparent from their plea from help, the folks they are trying to get to go door-to-door in the 41st district aren’t actually “neighbors” of the voters who have re-elected Litzow there. From the unions’ daily blog: “VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED forSaturday’s walk. We’ll meet at 9 a.m. at the Machinists Hall, 233 Burnett Ave. N. in Renton, to pair up, assign neighborhoods, and get literature and materials.”
The outside volunteers will have to navigate some pretty deep mud in this race, but that hasn’t stopped the Democrat outsiders in the past.
