Environmentalist groups—funded by California billionaire Tom Steyer—failed to hand Washington State’s Senate back to Democrats. Though groups like the Washington Conservation Voters (WCV) pumped millions into the attempt, they could not unseat Senators Steve O’Ban, Andy Hill and Doug Erickson.
Jay Inslee placed himself and his extreme environmental agenda on the ballot, and voters said “no.” As a result, Inslee will not be able to push his agenda—which includes a Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS)—through without any real checks.
The same cannot be said of Oregon where environmentalists’ plans actually worked. Democrats managed to “increase their majority in the Senate to at least 17 of the chamber’s 30 seats” (one race remains too close to call). Contrary to last session, extreme green groups now have enough votes in Oregon’s Senate to push through their agenda. Doug Moore, Executive Director of the Oregon League of Conservation Voters, admits that the “ultimate objective” is to “price carbon in Oregon.”
We can only imagine how jealous Inslee might become if, in the end, it’s Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber who—corruption scandals and all—wins that title of our nation’s greenest governor.
