Last week, Shift shined a spotlight on how the liberals have organized their election-year attack network and how money had flowed into the New Direction PAC to provide an organization that could develop their negative campaign strategies.
It was clear from the money that was flowing in that the Democrats had very few options for winning back the two seats they need to capture a majority willing to pass $1.17 gas-tax scheme Jay Inslee is pushing. However, it was also long-rumored that California billionaire Tom Steyer was willing to put big money into trying to give Inslee the Senate he deserved, as he himself told the New York Times this summer.
Last month, Steyer confirmed that rumor. He pumped $1 million into his NextGen Climate Action PAC. Yesterday, the deadline for any state PAC to make contributions over $5,000, Steyer dumped another quarter-million dollars into his PAC. Additionally, he gave three-quarters of a million dollars to the hyper-partisan Washington Conservation Voters to take his attacks to the front doors of voters in targeted Senate races in the 28th, 42nd and 45th Districts.
As SHIFT pointed out last week, the liberals had already formed attack PACs to launder special interest money against the incumbent Republican State Senators in those three districts – the Sensible Leadership for Whatcom PAC going after Sen. Doug Ericksen, 28th District Citizens for Real Democracy hitting Sen. Steve O’Ban and the Eastside Integrity PAC chasing Sen. Andy Hill. Each of those groups identify the “New Direction PAC” as their “parent” organization, and received donations from the same special interest donors – the labor-supported Kennedy Fund, the State Labor Council, the Conservation Voters, FUSE Votes (previously identified by SHIFT as a front group for the Progress Alliance of Washington) and the SEIU State Council.
And, all three attack PACs have started spending the money they have available (more than $100,000 as of yesterday) in blatantly false advertising efforts, such as the TV ad against Sen. Hill.
More information on Tom Steyer and the Democrats shady spending will be made public tonight, when the deadline for showing all their campaign spending (through yesterday) arrives. Check out SHIFT tomorrow for details on where you can expect more attacks to show up – and who is funding them.
Green is now part of a political platform to increase the power and scope of oppressive government. Notice that all the while these expensive thieving governments are in power nothing is done to actually do anything green but the power, scope and cost of these governments continues to rise in absolute and relative terms.
