THE NEWS IS GETTING OUT ABOUT HOW THINGS ARE GOING AFTER 10 YEARS OF JAY INSLEE’S MANAGEMENT OF STATE GOVERNMENT
STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ADMITS IT’S ON THE INSLEE PATH - “A GLIDE PATH TO FAILURE”
Leave it to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to elbow its way into the pre-election issue discussion, letting voters know that “it’s only getting half the funding it needs to preserve and fix our roads.” That’s the story from KIRO 7, highlighting that the person Governor Jay Inslee put in charge of transportation says we’re on “a glide path to failure” after his ten years in office.
It doesn’t seem like that’s an empty promise. The numbers for fixes get large in a hurry, with WSDOT “facing an estimated $11 billion budget shortfall over the next decade.” One bureaucrat “presented a grim outlook, asserting that nearly 60% of Washington’s lane miles are either due or past due for maintenance.”
The sadness over this situation is not reserved just for the poor people who drive the roads. You can read on to find out what transportation leader said, “Nobody is able to make a measurable difference, so I’m left feeling frustrated, I’m left feeling deflated, and ‘I don’t have solutions’ is what I’m hearing.” here… KIRO 7.
LIBERAL ACTIVISTS SHOCKED THAT TACOMA REALTORS DON’T WANT LAW MAKING HALF THE YEAR RENT-FREE FOR LIBERALS
It has taken an initiative that would allow people to live rent-free for half of the year – or more – to convince liberal activists of a massive realtor conspiracy against free rent. That seems to be the background of the Washington Observer finding that “Realtor groups just launched a massive campaign against the suite of renter protections on the ballot in Tacoma this year. The money is going toward a multi-media blitz against Measure 1, which would, among other things, ban evictions from November 1 until April 1.”
The arrival of an opposition campaign allegedly shocked “Tacoma For All, the labor-backed campaign behind Measure 1, (which) looks to be outspent by more than three to one.” You can read on to see how this was expected all along, but “Tacoma For All immediately cried foul and filed a complaint with the Public Disclosure Commission,” probably because the labor group is now going to lose here… Washington Observer.
ANDREW LEWIS IS SELLING HIS EXPERIENCE – WILL SEATTLE VOTERS BE BUYING?
Normally, a candidate only talks about experience when voters are happy with the product. That’s why it’s surprising to see Seattle City Councilman Andrew Lewis using a Crosscut interview to talk of the city needing “to make sure we have a council member who has the experience and tenacity and the ability to get this done and deliver” after he has spent his first term delivering outcomes that people don’t want.
Try not to laugh as you read about how the failing Lewis doesn’t “want to see these community investments squandered by an inexperienced replacement” when he’s doing a fine job squandering public resources himself here… Crosscut.
DEMOCRATS ARE PROUDLY COMING FOR YOUR CONSTITUTION
You have got to hand it to Democrat State Paty Chair Shasti Conrad – she is happy to keep playing a losing issue hand in public as long as it raises money from the base. That’s the story behind her latest fundraising missive, which has her doubling down on a social media dispute she is engaged in trying to defend her desire “to clean up the constitution here in Washington State.”
Rather than simply continue playing to the farthest-Left of her far-Left base using the power of the changes she wants to make to the state’s founding document, Chair Conrad tries to make this a racial attack on herself. You can read on how one of those pesky constitutional changes she wants is “making voting easier for countless thousands of eligible Washingtonians who might otherwise fail to send back their ballots” and how that would be different than ballot box stuffing here… WA State Democrats email.
CANDIDATES WANT YOUR LANDS
There will be plenty of competition for attention next year on your ballot, from the President on down to local judges. One race sure to get lost in the mix, despite its actual importance to our lives, is the one for Commissioner of Public Lands, though the NW News Network tries to provide reasons that should not be so, including pointing out that the “office oversees the management of millions of acres of public lands – including wildfire response – as the head of the state’s Department of Natural Resources.”
And while the public may not appreciate the position, already the “pool of candidates vying to become Washington’s next commissioner of public lands is getting crowded,” with seven in the race. You can read on to find out how that same number ran the last time the position lacked an incumbent here… NW News Network.
SUNSHINE (COMMITTEE) STILL TRYING TO SHINE
Legislators thought they had rid themselves of that pesky “Sunshine Committee” last session after trying to ignore it to death. However, the Washington State Standard has the story on how the “perpetual task force that goes nowhere” is gasping for life one last time despite having “grown pretty frustrated with the lack of interest in their advice.”
Read on to see if Democrat legislators will ignore the Sunshine Committee of basics like allowing “greater flexibility on when they meet and the ability to present their findings to House and Senate committees before each session” here… Washington State Standard.
