Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the holiday weekend! A day to gather, give thanks, and endure your uncle’s latest political theories that – hopefully – doesn’t involve lizard people. Remember, gratitude pairs well with turkey, and patience pairs even better with pie.
Washington’s Legislature: Where 'Diversity' Means One Agenda, Many Identities
Democrats claim to celebrate diversity, but their version seems more about pushing progressive talking points than highlighting true representation. In at recent PBS article, Rep. Julio Cortes uses his undocumented past to justify letting non-citizens enforce the laws they once avoided—because that’s apparently ‘diverse.’ Rep. Darya Farivar turned childhood lockdown drills into a crusade to disarm law-abiding citizens, while Rep. April Berg declares herself the ‘most qualified’ for her position because of her zip code, not her accomplishments.
Sen. John Lovick offers feel-good platitudes about diversity in policing but skips over actual solutions, and Rep. Sharon Tomiko Santos stretches the relevance of internment camps to justify today’s equity agenda. Over in the Black Caucus, representation is framed as a win, even when voters’ priorities seem to take a backseat to identity politics. Meanwhile, Sen. Emily Randall insists her earrings and haircut are powerful symbols, all while she talks more about resisting vague ‘attacks’ than crafting legislation.
This article supposedly highlights the ‘diverse’ Washington Legislature, but instead, it reads like a roll call of progressive activism masquerading as inclusion. When diversity means doubling down on big-government policies and ignoring dissenting views, it’s not really diversity. Read more at PBS.
Jay Inslee: Leading the charge on climate action—straight into a brick wall of missed goals and excuses.
It’s no wonder Jay Inslee didn’t want this info out before the election—Washington’s emissions have barely budged since he took office, despite all the talk of being a “climate leader.” After a pandemic-induced drop, carbon pollution has climbed back up and isn’t on track to meet the state’s 2030 targets. Transportation remains the biggest culprit, yet most of the transportation budget still prioritizes cars. Meanwhile, the state’s reliance on coal power and unaccounted methane leaks from imported natural gas further undercut progress.
Inslee’s office is mum, punting questions to the Department of Ecology, which admits its emissions data is years behind. Inslee’s legacy over decade is one of little progress and massive failures. Just another (of many) missed environmental goal for Inslee. Read more at KUOW.
Bob Ferguson's Victory Lap: Sponsored by IOUs and Last-Minute Begging
If Bob manages the state like he managed his campaign, we can expect state debt to grow exponentially. Fresh off his “decisive victory,” he’s already scrambling to cover $75,000 in unpaid campaign bills—and with a fundraising deadline looming, he’s passing the hat one last time. Apparently, running out of money is just part of Bob’s “winning strategy.” Let’s hope his budget skills improve before he gets his hands on the state’s checkbook! Read Ferguson’s latest email requesting donors help cover his debt here.
