Who needs citizenship verification when all you need is a photo ID and a handshake to vote?
In Washington, Voting’s Easier Than Renewing Your Library Card
Washington’s election system makes it far too easy for fraud to slip through the cracks. A recent investigation by Washington’s Secretary of State revealed a foreign national was mistakenly registered to vote while replacing a driver’s license—no citizenship proof required, just a quick oath and signature. The Department of Licensing employee involved admitted they had no way to verify citizenship, as photo ID suffices for renewals and duplicates. This incident highlights a glaring hole in Washington’s election security, where registering to vote seems easier than getting a Costco membership. This is just one of several cases where foreign nationals were either mistakenly registered or voted illegally, raising serious concerns about election security. With no citizenship verification needed for voter registration or license renewals, it’s shockingly simple for fraud to occur. Ridiculously, state officials have warned that publicizing these incidents fuels voter fraud claims. Rather than be so concerned with public transparency, perhaps the state should real issue: a system so lax that “just trust us” is the policy. Read more at Center Square.
When Green Dreams Meet Blackouts: Inslee’s Utopia Takes a Dark Turn
As KTTH’s Jason Rantz notes in a recent article, when a windstorm slammed Western Washington, it wasn’t just power lines that fell — it was the facade of Washington’s green energy dreams. Thousands shivered in powerless homes for days, while Puget Sound Energy (PSE) scrambled with excuses about “hurricane-like” damage. The real culprit? Negligence, like ignoring tree-trimming despite a $20 million budget.
And then there’s Gov. Jay Inslee, champion of banning gas stoves and mandating EVs. If a mere windstorm cripples the grid, how does he plan to power millions of EVs or heat homes without gas? Hint: he doesn’t. Meanwhile, Inslee was notably absent, likely avoiding the irony of outages fueled by his eco-extremism.
Instead of investing in reliable infrastructure like transmission upgrades and adequate staffing, Inslee’s pouring billions into green energy fantasies. When wind turbines and solar panels can’t restore power, families are left in the cold — literally. If this storm proved anything, it’s that Inslee’s electrified utopia isn’t just unrealistic; it’s dangerous. Read more at KTTH.
Inslee’s Green Dream: Strangling Washington’s Trucks and Economy, One Mandate at a Time
Governor Jay Inslee and Washington Democrats are pushing a reckless, one-size-fits-all climate agenda by locking the state into California’s stringent “zero-emission” truck mandates, despite the trucking industry’s objections. Starting January 1, truckers will be required to meet unrealistic zero-emission sales targets, which are not only unfeasible given the lack of charging infrastructure but will also hurt businesses by reducing payload capacity and operational efficiency. The Washington State Truckers Association has called out Inslee’s decision, warning that the new rules will push businesses to buy trucks outside the state, particularly in states like Idaho that don’t follow California’s rules, undermining Washington’s economy. Worse, the push for these rules will impact RV sales, including popular Class C models, which will now face costly new requirements. Even if the industry tries to comply, charging electric freight trucks takes hours, not minutes, and there’s no sign of necessary infrastructure to support the shift. Inslee’s plan, passed in 2020, has left the state permanently chained to California’s policy whims, with little regard for the economic impact or practicality. The trucking industry has begged for a pause, but it’s clear Inslee is more interested in ideological goals than ensuring a functioning, competitive state economy. Read more at Center Square.
Washington’s Bubble: Where Progressive Dreams Go to Die Nationally
In a recent op-ed, Jim Luce, a self-described center-right Democrat, describes his party as stuck in a progressive echo chamber that plays great in Olympia but falls flat everywhere else. Gov. Jay Inslee’s climate crusade may have flopped nationally, but it’s alive and well here, fueling Biden’s green spending spree disguised as the Inflation Reduction Act. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris’ inability to name a single issue with Biden’s presidency handed Trump the win, proving Democrats’ talent for ignoring voter frustration. Luce argues the party needs less identity politics and more connection with working families, like U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who didn’t mind ruffling feathers by opposing college loan forgiveness. In Washington, progressives rule the roost, but nationally, Democrats risk irrelevance unless they stop sneering at the voters they’ve abandoned. Read more at the Washington State Standard.
