AG FERGUSON HAS LEARNED IT HELPS TO CHEAT.
FRANZ SLOW TO ERASE FERGUSON’S ILLEGAL HEAD START IN 2024 MONEY RACE
Many more monthly financial reports remain to be filed before voters will decide our next governor, but as Shift has covered, Attorney General Bob Ferguson started the race by illegally tipping the scales in his favor – and added onto that lead in May. That’s the story the Washington State Standard picked up, writing “(D)uring May, (Bob) Ferguson’s campaign raised about $2.2 million, though $1.2 million was transferred from a surplus contribution account. In total, Ferguson’s ‘exploratory’ gubernatorial campaign has raised about $2.4 million.”
The AG’s leading money rival is State Lands Commissioner Hilary Franz, who “she raised about $176,000 in her first month of campaigning.” You can see who is giving what, to whom, here… Shift, Washington State Standard.
NOT REALLY NEWS, BUT SEATTLE CITY COUNCIL IS UNPOPULAR
One might think that Seattle City Council members would be worried that their recent vote to keep hard drugs legal might hurt their image, but that would ignore the reality that the Seattle City Council was not trusted by the public before the vote. As Axios-Seattle writes, “(N)early three-fourths of Seattle voters polled in a recent survey said they visit downtown Seattle less often than before the pandemic — and 66% gave the City Council a grade of D or F.”
The survey was actually prepared last month for the Downtown Seattle Association, but the results have been gaining new life in the wake of the council’s disastrous drug decision. A couple key findings: “The Seattle City Council was distrusted by 71% of those polled… 77% of those surveyed believed Seattle’s hands-off approach to drugs in public makes it harder for downtown to recover.” You can see more opinions here… Axios-Seattle.
UNION CALLS FOR A LITTLE INTIMIDATION TODAY BECAUSE NEGOTIATIONS ARE NOT GOING ITS WAY
The longshoremen who are shutting down ports up and down the West Coast (as Shift has covered) have nothing on the tactics of their union brethren in the SW Washington Central Labor Council, which was calling for a little good old-fashioned intimidation at today’s school board meeting: “EEA is calling for all available members of the labor community to join them in solidarity.”
This is all because the school board members won’t give the union all the money it wants. Or, as the union says “EEA’s bargaining with the Evergreen School district is not going in a positive direction. Sadly, Evergreen educators are being met with anti-union opposition at the bargaining table.” You can learn a bit more here… Shift, SW Washington Central Labor Council.
