No one expected Governor Jay Inslee, in his final pompous State of the State address, to admit the truth about the many failures during his time in the governor’s mansion. But, the stand-up comedy routine carried in the Seattle Times did surprise a bit, as after 40 years of single-party rule by Democrat chief executives in this state, Jay Inslee jokes “Washingtonians are never restricted by the past or the bog of the status quo.”

The vast majority of the media coverage of the governor’s self-congratulatory words forgot to mention that he was not exactly telling the truth. To that Shift says, hello “bog of the status quo”, meet Gov. Inslee and his fellow Democrats. Democrats are so desperate to save our nation’s democracy that they keep proposing bills to limit actual democracy. The latest example of this crazy liberal trend showed up in The Center Square covering a “bill introduced this session in the Washington Legislature (which) would allow local governments to shift their elections to even-numbered years only.”

The Far Left politicians who push bills like this claim it’s just about getting more (uninformed) people to vote, when the reality is that they need government help to motivate their base voters. One lefty claims “I think we all agree that when more people participate in an election, we have better results,” as long as those results mean more Democrats are elected. You can read on to see just how commited Democrats are to undermining actual democracy here… The Center Square.

Washington state labor unions have spent millions in recent years (you can look it up at the PDC) electing a Democrat-dominated legislature to pass laws given taxpayer money to labor unions to be signed by a labor-funded Democrat governor. So when the labor bosses tell you (or the Washington State Standard) what their priorities are, you know the priorities of those Democrat legislators in need of campaign cash.

Shift alerted you to this story earlier, and you’ll be comforted to see how the labor bosses cutting those checks have a fellow union member demonstrating her deep understanding of conflicts of interest by sponsoring House Bill 5777 to give taxpayer money to her striking union brethren, as Senator Karen “Keiser is also a member of SAG-AFTRA, which pushed California lawmakers to pass similar legislation” last year, a bill so bad even a Democrat governor vetoed it. It is worth asking, though liberals will never want to answer, what the primary goal is of Gov. Inslee’s top environmental law, his carbon tax? The old cliché to “follow the money” is one way to figure it out, and it sure appears from the environmental publicity playbook carried in Grist that the path to an improved environment runs right through Democrat campaign donors.

Just ask yourself, if reducing pollution and not rewarding donors was the objective, why is it the “Climate Commitment Act requires that at least 35 percent of the investments go toward ‘overburdened communities’,” and that an “additional 10 percent of investments are set aside for projects that directly benefit Native American tribes?” Just read on to see how the Left justifies using billions of dollars to try and protect their new cash cow here… Grist.

It is sad to realize that there are people out there who are not under some kind of supervision (and writing for The Stranger) who believe the threat that “the protest blocking I-5 was to tell electeds that there will be no business as usual until there is a ceasefire in Gaza”. Yes, they actually believe, as non-campaign donors, that their threats to Democrats “electeds” from Joe Biden to Jay Inslee will lead them to support the demand about supporting the Hamas terrorists.

One can only hope that the next time the arrogant attention-seekers “know that we are obligated to act, to interrupt, and to put ourselves on the line” that the line they are on gets them arrested and held accountable not for their lofty beliefs, but for their low-life behavior… The Stranger.

The next time you read in the mainstream media – or on a site like Huffington Post – that Washington state has the most unfair tax code in the country, understand that the “research” behind that false claim comes from the labor-funded Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. This group is dedicated to always raising taxes because “no state has a genuinely progressive tax structure.”

Left unsaid by socialist-inspired ITEP, and thus by the reporters who blindly accept the labor-funded “research”, is what does “taxing wealthy residents an equal share” mean – how much is equal, what is fair? You can read on to understand that the liberals’ answer is always “more” here… Huffington Post.

Democrats in Olympia seem to be going out of their way to make sure that it is easier to be a criminal in Washington state than anywhere else in the country. That’s certainly the message in the Everett Herald of Democrats pushing “House Bill 1062, which would effectively ban police from lying about evidence during suspect interrogation.”

It certainly sounds nice to be against lying, but in this case Democrats once again want to tip the scales of justice in favor of those with the motivation to lie – the criminals who don’t want to admit what they have done. Just consider how naïve the bill’s sponsor is about criminals when he says “(I)f we want to build that kind of trust between our police agencies and our communities, truthfulness is, I think, the basis,” when the last thing a criminal wants is to “build” anything with the police.

Or consider instead the police position that if “we could somehow get people to actually be required to tell the truth, we wouldn’t have to lie” here… Everett Herald.

The team at Shift will leave the headline in the paragraph below (from Bellingham’s Cascadia Daily) with little comment, other than to say that we don’t recall Democrats campaigning for office on the promise that “(W)hen it comes to encountering an opioid overdose in Whatcom County, it is not a matter of if, but when”.
