Liberal politicians, media members, and activists panic over no longer having a privilege status on Twitter.

State

Liberals have acted as if Elan Musk purchasing Twitter is akin to the apocalypse, while moderate and conservative accounts have experienced a sudden increase in followers as a new audience has become curious about the social media site. Liberal politicians, organizations, and media have whined endlessly that Twitter will no longer cater only to their narrow far-Left points of views.  The Seattle Times posted a story outlining how overly-sensitive liberal Twitter users can deactivate their accounts, though not acknowledging those with more conservative viewpoints are suddenly interested in joining the site.

The new moderate and conservative Twitter users were previously dissuaded from joining the social media website due to its obvious liberal bias and unfair attacks on conservative viewpoints.  People saw conservative political satire from Babylon Bee being banned from posting new comments due to an obvious joke, while Nicole Thomas Kennedy is able to continue to post her hate-filled rants and support for violence against police officers. Thus while a few liberals have left the platform, moderates and conservatives appear to be replacing them.  (If you are thinking of now joining Twitter, we hope you will follow Shift.)

Elan Musk is a very wealthy man in part because he is incredibly smart.  He did not drop $44 billion dollars on it to turn Twitter into a conservative mecca and suddenly start banning and censuring liberal points of view.   While no one is sure what all will be done at Twitter, it appears that Musk’s plans are to level the playing field by removing the obvious liberal bias and providing more transparency into the site’s algorithms.  And this is what liberals truly don’t like about Musk’s purchase: they may no longer be able control the conversation and they are afraid of transparency. The Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr, Anthony Fauci declared that the country is no longer in the “explosive pandemic phase” of the COVID crisis.  Thus far there has been no indication from Governor Jay Inslee on ending his undemocratic abuse of emergency powers in our state, which is currently on Day 788.  Legislative Democrats have enabled this abuse to continue by refusing to pass reform bills to allow legislators to resume their constitutional responsibility to write and pass laws.

Once again, if neither Governor Inslee nor the Democrat legislative leaders have confidence in the Democrat members who control both the Washington State Senate and House of Representatives to pass laws regarding an “emergency” which is more than two years old, then why should the voters support these same legislators when they seek re-election this fall?  If even their fellow Democrat politicians believe they are this incompetent, then they must not be fit to serve. A volunteer effort by a group of Seattle residents to provide shelter to homeless individuals was thwarted due to liberal policies and infighting amongst Democrat politicians and government bureaucrats.  A group of senior residents at the Mirabella retirement center had raised nearly $150,000 to build a 40-unit tiny house village in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. The group first looked at a vacant piece of Seattle City Light property, but that site has since became unavailable. The group was then promised assistance from Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell’s office, but soon the mayor’s staff stopped returning phone calls from the volunteers. (We should note that during his 2021 campaign, candidate Harrell promised to build 1,000 low-income housing units in his first six months in office. Yet, nearly four months in, and zero units have been built.)  The new Regional Housing Authority calls the tiny house villages “shantytowns” and have also refused to help in the effort.

After reading about another tiny house village in the Rainier Beach neighborhood remaining empty due to political turf wars among liberal officials, John Pehrson, the leader of the Mirabella group, stated, “We’re giving up,” and will return the donations to the contributors. Pehrson also said, “It’s terribly frustrating. No homeless people got helped.” (Danny Westneat/Seattle Times)

KING5 News reported on one of the literally thousands of occasions when police officers were prohibited from following a suspected criminal (this one in Centralia) due to the Democrats passing their anti-police package in 2021 and then failing to fix (as promised in January) the pursuit portion of the legislation during the 2022 session.  The suspected catalytic converter theft suspect was approached by Centralia police in a parking lot and drove wildly over sidewalk onto city streets before speeding away.  Police were forced to stop their pursuit and allow the suspect to flee the scene. (The suspect was later seen at a nearby park n’ ride where he was chased away by citizens who caught him snooping under cars.)

We should note that not once in the KING5 story was it mentioned that legislation which allows suspected criminals to flee was written and passed with support only from Democrat lawmakers.  Even when Senate Democrat Floor Leader Jamie Pedersen was interviewed about the reason behind the legislation allowing suspected criminals to flee (because liberal legislators sitting in their sealed-off legislative offices believe they know far better than well-trained officers when it is safe to chase suspected felons), it was not mentioned that he is a Democrat legislator. We are fairly confident that if legislation which endangers the public safety of millions of Washington residents was passed with only Republican legislative support and signed by a Republican governor, the story would have made it clear which party was responsible for the lunacy.  (KING5 News)

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell had the Seattle Police officer in charge of communications reassigned after the mayor became upset over conflicting public messages – which were later found out to be the fault of his own office.  After two recent incidents where the mayor’s office failed to notify the police department of needed information (one over increased police visibility on 3rd Avenue after multiple violent crime incidents, and the other over the mayor sending police equipment to Ukraine), there were conflicting messages in the media over what was taking place. The mayor held a meeting with the Seattle Police Department and ordered all police communication to be run through his office. The SPD’s public information officer Sergeant Randy Huserik argued this was not practical in many emergency situations. The next day the sergeant found out he was reassigned. (MyNorthwest)

Seattle police response times to some 911 calls is now over an hour due to the failed liberal public safety policies of the city council.  The Seattle Police Department is severely short-staffed due to well-trained police officers leaving to work for communities where elected officials support their law enforcement.  In yet another city council meeting about the SPD’s staffing crisis, ultra-liberal Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda (one of the architects of the city’s failed “defund” the police policies) said that most of these 911 calls should not be responded to by police officers but by “alternative responders.”  Another councilmember then asked council staff if there were any “alternative responders” available for these calls.  The staff member said these people do not exist. The City of Edmonds is considering a measure to penalize those who are camped on public lands who refuse to leave or accept assistance.  The city council is deliberating on what type of assistance needs to be offered before using the “last resort” to arrest (for up to 90 days) the individual. The measure appears to have the support of the majority of councilmembers.  (KIRO – TV)

Liberal members of the Spokane City Council continue to place roadblocks in the way of Spokane Mayor Nadine’ Woodward’s administration’s ability to develop a homeless shelter to bring individuals off the street and out of neighborhoods.  The liberals who control the city council placed restrictions on the number of people who can be housed in a shelter (reducing from 250 capacity down to just 100), thus forcing the mayor’s team to locate even more hard-to-find locations for shelters.  The council also failed to approve zoning changes which are needed for an old warehouse to be turned into a shelter.  Critics said it appears the liberals on the council are more concerned with a political victory over the moderate Mayor Woodward then they are in wanting to help those who are homeless.
