In a story that didn’t make it from the Washington Post to this coast, the former director of both the Gallup Organization and the Pew Research Center has bad news for the Democrats – they are too liberal for the majority of Americans, and moving further left.
Of course, that means little in Seattle, where even the Democrats are too conservative, requiring that Socialists be represented on the City Council.
Andrew Kohut was the author of the analysis, pointing out that it is not just Republicans who have factions. Indeed, he points out that the far left is pulling the Democrat Party out of the American values mainstream. Even though only 34% of Democrats are not embarrassed to call themselves liberal, they present a problem for Democrats running for President, because “Although they are a minority of Democrats nationwide, liberals are more politicized and make up a disproportionate share of primary electorates.”
Paging George McGovern…or at least Bernie Sanders
