Shift reported earlier this week that a desperate Democrat Governor’s Association (DGA) – down to just 16 members after the election – had turned to Jay Inslee as its leader for the 2018 election. One has to wonder if no one else wanted the job, since “leader” and “Jay Inslee” are not normally used in the same sentence.
However, the next shoe dropped yesterday, when it was reported that Democrats have a secret up their sleeves for the 2018 elections which will make Inslee’s fundraising job for the DGA easier – recruit rich guys who will fund their own campaigns. According to Politico, “in three major states with a governor’s mansion up for grabs in 2018, a big-name, politically active billionaire or multimillionaire is taking steps toward a run — donors looking to take matters into their own hands after 2016’s gutting losses.”
Rich liberals in Florida, Michigan, and California are all looking at trying to buy a governor’s mansion in 2018, which would allow Inslee to concentrate his “efforts” in less-costly states.
Fortunately for Jay the candidate in California is one of his best buddies – Tom Steyer. As Shift has often reported, Steyer is well-acquainted with trying to buy elections with so-called “dark money”, though he has had less success (thankfully) in Washington State than elsewhere.
There are 36 governor’s races in 2018, so the DGA and Inslee still have a few holes to fill with rich guys before his job gets really easy – which is how he likes it.
