Olympia was stunned today when a federal grand jury indicted Democrat State Auditor Troy Kelley on 10 counts of criminal activity. Charges range from filing false tax returns, obstruction of justice and possession of stolen items. Kelley is due to appear in court at 2:30 pm today. Q13 Fox,

“According to the indictment, between 2003 and 2008 Kelley operated a business that was paid by real estate title companies… Kelley allegedly kept money from transactions with the company, resulting in more than $2 million in stolen money.

“Furthermore, the indictment alleges the state auditor failed to pay federal taxes and obstructed (the) IRS in its efforts to collect taxes from him.”

Jay Inslee has backtracked on his fierce insistence that he is satisfied with Kelley’s explanation of the investigation. Inslee called for Kelley to resign immediately. However, just yesterday, Inslee suggested that perhaps he and a reporter should “go out in the alleyway and decide who is weak on this” after the reporter questioned Inslee over his lax handling of the issues surrounding his fellow Democrat.

Update: Kelley announced that he would take a leave of absence rather than resign.
