Surprise, Surprise – turns out, “defender of democracy” Bob Ferguson prefers strong-arming over integrity, caught demanding illegal ballot changes to benefit his candidacy.

Ballot Bully: Bob Ferguson's Demands Illegal, Self-Serving Alteration

Bob Ferguson – a self-proclaimed champion of democracy – allegedly demanded that Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs illegally alter the ballot in his favor. In a phone call, Ferguson demanded that Hobbs reorder the ballot, so his name appeared above the other two Bob Fergusons who were running for governor (that is, before Ferguson intimidated them to drop out of the race). In other words, Ferguson has been caught in a web of hypocrisy. While he publicly claimed he was championing election integrity, he privately pressured Hobbs to illegally tamper with the ballot.

Hobbs reported that Ferguson yelled at him and pressured him to reorder the ballot, which Hobbs refused, stating it was against the law. Ferguson allegedly responded aggressively, at one point yelling, “Bull***t! You could push the envelope!” This conversation was caught on an open mic and reviewed by “The Jason Rantz Show on KTTH.” Hobbs has not denied the quote’s accuracy.

Ferguson’s campaign justified the request citing a Washington Administrative Code, but Hobbs pointed out that the Revised Code of Washington supersedes it, emphasizing legal compliance. So, Hobbs chose to list the candidates’ occupations to mitigate voter confusion. As Shift WA reported, Ferguson appears to then have resorted to threatening the two other Fergusons, saying if they didn’t drop out of the race, they would face jail time.

State Senator Mark Mullet, Ferguson’s Democratic opponent, criticized Ferguson’s actions as aggressive and self-serving. Mullet expressed shock that the Attorney General would instruct the Secretary of State to break the law. He argued that such behavior highlights Ferguson’s willingness to prioritize personal gain over legal and ethical standards. Certainly, the incident exposes Ferguson’s true character – self-serving and power-grabbing. Read KTTH’s Jason Rantz’s take here.

New Poll: Voters Are Just Not That into Democrats’ Taxes

A new Cascade PBS/Elway Poll shows voters are not so keen on some of Democrats’ most impactful tax policies. The survey asked voters whether they support the three tax initiatives on the November ballot this year, including repealing the capital gains income tax, ending the hidden gas tax (i.e. the cap-and-tax/carbon tax system), and making the long-term care tax optional. For the carbon tax initiative, 41% favor prohibiting carbon taxes, 31% oppose, and 28% are undecided; these numbers shift to 43% in favor, 34% against, and 23% undecided after hearing pros and cons. On the capital gains income tax repeal, 47% support it, 36% oppose it, and 17% are undecided; after more details, support drops to 40%, with 41% wanting to keep the tax and 19% undecided. For the long-term care tax, 47% want to repeal it, 25% are against repeal, and 28% are undecided; these figures slightly change to 45% for, 27% against, and 27% undecided after further information. While no side on any issue reached a majority, the plurality of voters clearly had enough of taxes. Of course, a lot can change from now until Election Day – that’s why it’s never been more important to vote this November. Read more at Crosscut.

Kilmer Endorses Franz, Glosses Over Move to District

Retiring Democrat U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer is endorsing Hilary Franz to replace him in the 6th Congressional District. A recent email sent from Franz’s campaign reads:

“I’m proud to support Hilary Franz for Washington’s 6th Congressional District. Hilary’s experience working with communities throughout our district and her dedication to service make her the right choice to serve as our next representative.

We’re not sure what kind of work Franz has done “throughout” the 6th CD as she just moved there. Perhaps Rep. Kilmer should have added “from Commencement Bay to Elliott Bay,” since that’s where fifth-place gubernatorial candidate Franz was living before she decided that an open congressional district needed a new resident.

Of course, that seems to be a pattern with Democrat politicians in our state. Before Franz, on-the-move candidates/congresspeople Marilyn Strickland and Pramila Jayapal did the same. Check out the email here.

Democrat Showdown: Franz and Randall Duke it Out for Labor's Big Bucks in the 6th CD

Interparty drama is unfolding in the 6th Congressional District as two Democrats, Hilary Franz and Emily Randall, vie for significant labor endorsements, crucial for securing the big money campaign support that Democrats so rely on. Despite Franz’s initial claims of being the most labor-endorsed candidate, Randall has swiftly garnered backing from major unions such as SEIU 775, SEIU Local 925, and Teamsters Local 117, representing a powerful force of about 150,000 members statewide. Randall’s biggest coup came with the endorsement of the Washington State Labor Council’s Committee on Political Education, driven by concerns from union workers at Franz’s own Department of Natural Resources. While Franz retains endorsements from smaller unions, Randall’s support from heavyweight unions like Machinists 751 and the Washington Federation of State Employees positions her as the frontrunner in the labor endorsement race. It remains to be seen whether edging out Franz in labor endorsements will translate to a primary victory for Randall. Read more at the Washington State Standard.
