Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) are leading a signature gathering campaign for Initiative 2066, an effort to repeal parts of Democrats’ absurd new state law that effectively bans natural gas. The initiative goes a step further by seeking to prevent local governments from banning or discouraging gas use in buildings. And, if passed, it would also invalidate recent energy code changes heavily incentivizing builders to opt for electric heat pumps in new constructions.

Greg Lane, BIAW’s executive vice president, emphasized the importance of preserving consumer choice for natural gas. In a recent press release he said:

“Millions of families and businesses rely on natural gas in Washington, including many who already struggle to pay their energy bills… It’s short-sighted, costly and cruel to force Washington to abandon natural gas as an energy source when inflation is so high and our energy grid and supply chain aren’t ready to handle it.”

BIAW’s effort is supported by groups like the Washington Hospitality Association, Washington Realtors, and Let’s Go Washington. The initiative must obtain 324,516 valid signatures by July 5 to make it onto the November ballot. It is recommended that supporters gather at least 405,000 to account for potential invalid signatures.

If the signature gathering effort is successful, voters will have an opportunity to reverse Democrats’ burdensome attempt to regulate their energy options. You can learn more here.

Democrat State Rep. Melanie Morgan (29^th LD/Spanaway) is a terrible boss – that, at least, appears to be the conclusion from a report by the Chief Clerk of the House. The report substantiates rumors about Morgan’s unpleasant relationships with staff. The 55-page report by Sound Workplace Investigations documents multiple incidents from the past session, alleging that Morgan abused and belittled her legislative assistant. The report lists 21 allegations against Morgan, including yelling profanities and making disparaging remarks about staffers. Witnesses claimed Morgan’s behavior, which included contacting a staffer’s relative to complain, was a longstanding issue. It remains to be seen whether Morgan will face consequences for possibly violating the House’s Respectful Workplace Policy. Read more at the Washington Observer.

Shaun Scott is so far-left, he lost a Seattle City Council race in a far-left district that includes college students – and now he is running to replace the retiring Frank Chopp in the 43rd Legislative District. But he’ll first have to face three primary challengers, and he’s not happy about it. The far-left candidate recently put out a video where he said:

“Under normal circumstances, a candidate that is running in a very progressive district with the endorsement of an outgoing 30-year incumbent and with significant in-district name recognition, and the fundraising and volunteer energy to show it, that candidate would normally be running unopposed.”

In the same video, Scott claimed he was up against a non-existent Republican challenger or – as he put it – a “Republican fundraiser.” Of course, as KTTH’s Jason Rantz points out, that’s not true. All his primary opponents are Democrats.

It appears that the would-be state legislator suffers from a big entitlement complex and struggles with truth-telling – he should fit right in with the Democrat caucus. Read Jason Rantz’s take at KTTH.
