UW admin is turning cowardice into an art form, providing barricades to an antisemitic ‘Liberated Zone’ while ensuring Jewish students feel liberated from, well, safety.
How UW Became a Haven for Extremists: A Tale of Cowardice and Complicity
The University of Washington administration has more than proved themselves to be cowards when it comes to standing up to the extreme leftists who have taken over the campus. But it now appears the administration’s conduct is more insidious than merely inaction. We now know the administration provided barricades to the so-called autonomous Liberated Zone – run by activists who are not even students – that effectively barred Jewish students from entering the encampment.
The move is not only illegal discrimination but – as KTTH’s Jason Rantz points out – extremely risky as it entrusts security to untrained and antisemitic activists. From Rantz:
“Over the weekend, roughly 500 people showed up for a pro-Israel rally on Red Square. The intent was to walk through the Jew-hating encampment to show that local Jews, Christian supporters, and other allies are not scared of the antisemitic students and their outside agitator friends. But the UW administration erected physical barriers and offered antisemitic encampment activists police protection as if the peaceful pro-Israel crowd was dangerous.
“UW Police, flanked by Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers, stood by on Sunday as Antifa thugs, decked out in black bloc, put up their own fencing around the barricade to keep Jews out. They had previously stolen campus bicycle racks to use as barricades. The UW didn’t merely allow it, they tacitly encouraged it.”
Similarly, when a UW professor was assaulted by antisemitic activists last week, UW Police did nothing. The reality is that the administration’s capitulation to the extremists that have taken over the campus exposes students to harassment and violence – and they simply do not care. City of Snohomish Cracks Down: Outdoor Patio Cover Survives Pandemic, Falls Foul of Bureaucratic Code Enforcers
Like so many other businesses across our state that endured Jay Inslee’s unprecedented, tyrannical reign during the COVID-19 pandemic, Andy’s Fish House in Snohomish faced serious business challenges but adapted to stay alive. In the restaurant’s case, they did so with outdoor seating complete with a patio cover. Now, the bureaucrats over at the City of Snohomish are demanding the restaurant remove the patio cover, threatening a hefty $1,000 per day fine for noncompliance.
The city claims the structure no longer complies with building codes, citing the International Building Code (IBC). But, as the Washington Policy Center points out, the demand to remove the patio cover makes no logical sense. Why was it acceptable during COVID but not afterward?
Andy’s Fish House is not alone. Other businesses are confronted with similar challenges from unelected city-level bureaucrats despite legality during COVID. As we all know, the COVID-19 pandemic exposed a lot about our government – no one needs to be reminded of Inslee’s shocking abuse of emergency powers. And that includes how much local control over codes is ceded to international bodies like the IBC. Simply put, these codes have a serious impact on businesses – and they are decided on by unelected bureaucrats. Read the full story – and a rational take – at the Washington Policy Center.
The Tale of Three Fergusons Comes to an End Amid Dramatic Threats
After facing legal backlash from Attorney General Bob Ferguson (herein referred to as “far-left Ferguson”), the two other Bob Fergusons who put their names in the race for governor have dropped out. In what mainstream media outlets are calling a “political stunt” by a conservative activist, the two other Bob Fergusons were recruited to run for governor – and the far-left Ferguson was not happy about it. In fact, he was so upset that he resorted to using his position of power to intimidate the other two Fergusons, threatening legal action against them.
As Shift previously reported, far-left Ferguson had a rather overly dramatic reaction to the other two Fergusons entering the race for governor. Taking his cue from the tired line Democrats love to throw around, far-left Ferguson referred to the stunt as an “attack on our democracy.” Of course, there is nothing undemocratic about people entering a race for governor. There is, however, something deeply undemocratic about threatening said people with legal action as the sitting Attorney General of a state.
Sure, the political stunt was just that, a stunt, and, sure, voters are likely best served without having to deal with any stunts leading up to an election. But far-left Ferguson’s actions are also inexcusable. The Attorney General would best serve people across our state by actually tackling the serious issues that impact them on a day-to-day basis, like out-of-control crime. Instead, in true far-left Ferguson fashion, he is abusing his power to serve his own interests.
Here is what one of the other Bob Fergusons had to say after he dropped out of the race for governor:
Seattle Councilmember Puts a Wrench in Effort to Recruit Police Officers
Seattle has been hemorrhaging police officers for years because of the city’s far-left anti-law enforcement policies. In fact, more than 700 officers have left the Seattle Police Department in the past five years. With staffing at the lowest levels they’ve been in 30 years, the city simply does not have enough police officers to protect residents. Seattle now aims to hire 125 officers this year amid a predictable surge in crime rates.
To attract police officers back to Seattle, the city council is now considering a new contract between the city and the Seattle Police Officer’s Guild (SPOG). Mayor Bruce Harrell claims the new contract would make Seattle police officers among the most competitively paid in the state. According to Harrell’s office, the contract focuses on staffing, wages, accountability, and expanding civilian response options to enhance public safety.
But all that doesn’t sound good to far-left, pro-criminal Councilmember Tammy Morales. She is essentially arguing for more handcuffs on law enforcement. For Morales, the harder it is for a police officer to do their job, the better. She’s calling for a pause on the city council’s vote while the public has a chance to comment on the contract. Meanwhile, public safety in Seattle continues to suffer. Read more at King 5 News.
OVERHEARD ON THE INTERWEBS...
The irony of a true political coward attempting to call into question someone else’s courage is really too much…
We couldn’t have said it any better…
UW admin continues to aid the extreme leftists occupying the campus and intimidating students who do not agree with them…
