USDA WARNS OF BLEAK SUMMER WATER SUPPLY OUTLOOK DUE TO LOW SNOWPACK
The far-left enviros are no doubt preparing to light their hair on fire and run around like Chicken Little declaring a “climate emergency” following a USDA report that due to record or near record low snowpack, we will likely be facing moderate drought conditions across the state this summer. Yes, we’ve had these conditions in the past, but we’re willing to bet that they will take heed of Winston Churchill’s adage that you “never let a good crisis go to waste.”…MyBellinghamNow
SEATTLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS CONTINUES TO PHASE OUT GIFTED PROGRAMS IN THE NAME OF EQUALITY
Shift has previously reported on Seattle Public Schools’ plan to change (phase out) their Highly Capable Cohorts program for advanced students in the 2021-2022 school year to ensure it is “inclusive, equitable, and culturally sensitive.” This included looking at students who didn’t necessarily test well but that teachers saw promise in. While it appears that they are trying to frame this as creating a new and better program, it, unfortunately, looks like they are really phasing it out so that nobody feels left out…The Center Square
$88,000 IN TAXPAYER DOLLARS GIVEN TO SERIAL SQUATTER TO STAY IN BELLEVUE HOME
King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn is sounding the alarm about troubling payments that have been made by a taxpayer-funded program meant to help families down on their luck that are keeping a serial squatter and his family in a $2 million dollar Bellevue home. The program, funded by taxpayers in King County, was meant for people experiencing cashflow issues during the pandemic to stay in their homes but now appears to have been exploited. Despite the landlord having three eviction judgments against the squatter, the Housing Justice Project appears to have compensated him for unpaid rent anyway. Sadly, we here at Shift can’t help but ask, “is anyone really surprised?” …Newsweek
NEW FERRIES CHIEF VOWS TO RIGHT THE SHIP WHILE BOB FERGUSON RELEASES PLAN TO MAGICALLY FIX THE BELEAGUERED AGENCY
WSF has a new leader as they face continued staffing challenges and an aging, often broken fleet. Shift can’t help but wonder where they would be if they hadn’t fired 121 employees for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Steve Nevey takes the helm while they try to hire people and keep the fleet together as new ferries are 4-6 years out. Meanwhile, Bob Ferguson released his plan to fix the ferry system in which he will seemingly wave a magic wand and fix all the things that have eluded Jay Inslee for the past 12 years – all starting with creating more government bureaucracy…KOMO News, Twitter
