SOUND TRANSIT IS AT IT AGAIN, WASTING TIME, WASTING MONEY

WHEN IT COMES TO GETTING IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, SOUND TRANSIT CONSISTENTLY GETS IT WRONG

Shift has been writing about Sound Transit’s inability to finish any project in a timely manner (let alone being within budget) for almost our entire existence. That’s why it’s no surprise to see yet another front-page Seattle Times story diving into yet another Sound Transit mess – this one a last-minute proposal to move an unbuilt station, a “shift west (which) would abandon Seattle’s grand plan, approved in 2011, for a Harrison transit hub.”

Mayor Bruce Harrell is the one throwing this last-minute curve at the planners vainly trying to build out the ST3 route approved by voters, even knowing that “to examine yet another option creates two years of delays upfront for environmental study, so the entire 7.1-mile Sodo-to-Ballard corridor would not open until 2041, transit staff estimated.” Additionally, the reality is that as “a general rule, every month of ST3 delay will add $50 million to construction prices.”

Sounds like just another massive Sound Transit screw-up in the making. Read on to see why a pro-transit group panned the idea as “yet another obvious example of the Sound Transit board wasting time and money on options that are worse for transit riders” here… ShiftSeattle Times.

THE TAXMAN COMETH – AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN…

Democrats have tried very hard over the decade that Jay Inslee has been governor to extract as much tax money from voters as possible. They have gotten so good at their taxing ways that Crosscut is breaking that “Washington is projected to collect $770 million more in taxes over the next four years than previously expected, according to a new state revenue forecast.”

The new forecast is great news for legislative liberals, who have undoubtedly already spent the money they did not know they had coming in.  You can read about how taxes “are now expected to bring in an additional $191 million for the current two-year budget cycle,” and “$579 million in higher-than-expected collections are projected for the 2025-27 budget cycle,” here… Crosscut.

THE INSLEE WAY: WHEN RESULTS ARE FAILURES, JUST DELETE THE RESULTS PAGE

We are now over a decade into Governor Jay Inslee’s reign of error over the people of Washington, and examples of his mismanagement of the state continue to pop up regularly. That’s one reason the folks at Future 42 have been highlighting how the governor’s words don’t always match his deeds, such as how by “removing results from his Results Washington website, he’s doing the wrong thing by his own standards.”

You may remember that Gov. Inslee launched his Results website with great fanfare, claiming that “holding ourselves accountable for results to the citizens of Washington isn’t politically expedient. But it is clearly the right thing to do.” You can read how he’s evidently forgotten that deleting the “right thing to do” doesn’t make it go away forever here…Future 42.

YOUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AT WORK: WE NEED TO KILL THE (BARRED) OWLS TO SAVE THE (SPOTTED) OWLS

Many people have forgotten the “owl wars” of the 1980s and 1990s, when liberals in Seattle used the courts and Democrat politicians to destroy small towns in Western Washington in the name of saving the spotted owl. Now comes a report from the Capital Press letting us know that the latest federal solution for saving “the endangered northern spotted owl (is) by shooting more than 400,000 barred owls in Oregon and Washington over a 30-year period.”

This rather macabre solution was reached after eliminating other options, as “USFWS considered moving or sterilizing the non-native and invasive barred owls, but concluded salvation for the spotted owl must come from 12-gauge shotguns.” You can read on to see how the hunt will be carried out here… Capital Press.

SUMMER IS LONG OVER, BUT JAY INSLEE AND DEMOCRAT LEGISLATORS ARE STILL TRYING TO CONVINCE VOTERS THAT NO ONE KNEW THEIR CARBON TAX WOULD MAKE GAS PRICES GO UP
