THE ELECTION IS OVER, SO NOW WHAT?
IT’S TIME TO TURN THE PAGE ON ’23, AND START GETTING DEPRESSED FOR ‘24
All the votes from last week’s election have not yet been counted, but those results are already so much old news. That’s why the folks over at Crosscut are saving the day with just what we needed: a poll about next year!
You can amuse yourselves with selected musings from regular folks who are already disgusted by their choices for their next year, with the pollster Stu Elway noting, “(I)t’s safe to say that voters are not looking forward to this election. A lot of ‘dread,’ ‘depressed,’ ‘horror show,’ which is the family-friendly version [of what] they said.” You can find some good news that U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell is starting her re-election campaign in weak shape, as only “43% of those polled said they would support Cantwell” here… Crosscut.

AG CANDIDATE BROWN PLEDGES THAT BIG LABOR WILL HAVE BIG INFLUENCE OVER ALL HIS BIG DECISIONS
It may be hard to believe, what with all the oxygen being sucked up by current Attorney General Bob Ferguson suing everybody in his path to the governor’s mansion, but there will be a new top cop in Washington state elected next year. That’s why it’s worth noting that Nick Brown, the Democrat favorite for the spot, has already declared that he is running, without any concern for the actual law here, “to ensure Washingtonians have an Attorney General who will stand with workers and organized labor.”
Now the “stand with workers” part we get, but why does the specific special interest “organized labor” get promised special favor from someone who is supposed to just follow the law? Maybe the former Survivor contestant (he did that reality TV show before his gig as Gov. Inslee’s lawyer) understands you must eat to survive, and his AG campaign needs the food provided by the generous contributions provided by his friends in “organized labor.” Read on to see if any other campaign donors are called out by Mr. Brown here… Nick Brown email, Associated Press.
GOP ANNOUNCES AG-FOCUSED AGENDA THAT MEDIA COMPLETELY IGNORES
The end of this campaign season means the next legislative season cannot be far away. That’s why the folks down in the Republican Senate Caucus organized a press conference to announce the party’s “pro-agriculture agenda today for the 2024 legislative session”.
Unfortunately for the state of Washington, the vast majority of the media have no understanding of agriculture whatsoever, so the only coverage of this new agenda we have uncovered is from the Gorge News Center, highlighting the need for Olympia to “address overregulation, farm closures, water rights, and other issues that threaten Washington’s agricultural industry, the heritage of rural communities and the food supply.” If you want to see for yourself, you can watch the news conference as it aired on TVW by clicking here… Gorge News Center, TVW.
FERGUSON TOSSES INSLEE UNDER BUS OVER ILLEGAL DRUG SCANDAL
It can be hard to run a campaign when the current holder of the office you are seeking is desperately clinging to said office. Such is the case with Attorney General Bob Ferguson trying to find a way to steal attention away from our camera-hound Governor Jay Inslee, especially when the governor is getting attention for doing things illegally and not protecting him, as reported by the Daily Chronicle.
It seems the AG does not want the public to think that he knows what the governor does, as “Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s office reached out to The Chronicle to clarify” that it was the governor ignoring the illegal drug situation at the Green Hill juvenile jail, “where a staff member allegedly provided narcotics to a student inmate, overdoses were concealed rather than reported to law enforcement and evidence was stashed away in lockers”, not the AG. You can read on how “Shockingly, local law enforcement — the Chehalis Police Department, the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team (JNET) and Centralia police — had to obtain a search warrant to compel school officials to turn over the confiscated items” here… Daily Chronicle.
REMINDER: MAIL-IN VOTING IS ONLY AS SECURE AS THE POST OFFICE IS TRUSTWORTHY
Leave it to a far-Left Democrat in Seattle (which Shift realizes is redundant) to raise the issue of election integrity this year, especially when there are multiple races being decided by just a few hundred votes. It turns out, according to the Seattle Times, that “(B)allots dated before the Nov. 7 general election return deadline sat uncounted in one Seattle mail drop box until voters complained to King County.”
This type of ballots just floating around kind of thing can create some problems, as was noted by socialist candidate Ron Davis, because “if there are blocks of missing ballots like this, I would appreciate if King County Elections and USPS would notify the public and campaigns rather than us having to find out about it through anonymous tips.” Read on to see whether that kind of sensibility might be applied to future elections here to guard against “unwitting voters” here… Seattle Times.
