SEATTLE DEMOCRATS KNOW WHAT’S BEST FOR THOSE EASTERN WASHINGTON FOLK, IF ONLY THEY WOULD LISTEN.
DEMOCRAT LEGISLATORS HAVE NEW DEFINITION FOR DRIVE-THRU ATM
State Senator Manka Dhingra and other far Left Democrats were able to save one of their favorite police “reforms” during the recent legislative session, as Shift covered, making sure that police are not allowed to pursue suspected car thieves. That, in turn, has made stolen vehicles one of the favorite new “accomplices” for criminals looking to make an unauthorized bank withdrawal.
UNIONS SAY THEY ARE NOT ON STRIKE, THEY JUST ARE NOT WORKING
Sometimes the people running labor unions like to make it clear that they really don’t care much what people think about them, or think that highly of non-union folk at all. The current labor dispute on the waterfront, which Shift has been highlighting for over a year, provides a clear example, with industry publication Maritime Executive reporting that “Container operations at the Port of Seattle were suspended on Friday, June 9, and did not resume on June 10.”
The lack of working did not trouble the longshoremen union leaders, who claimed that “West Coast ports are open as we continue to work under our expired collective bargaining agreement.” You can decide which side is telling the truth here… Shift, Maritime Executive.
SEATTLE CITY COUNCIL AND DRUGS – NO HURRY HERE
The fallout from the success of the Seattle City Council in making the city an oasis in Washington for legal hard drugs continues, with public radio reporting that it was “process” to blame for the city’s “leaders” not being able to pass a law prohibiting things like smoking fentanyl in public. This after it appeared from the drug debate that city council members were at serious odds with the King County Prosecutor’s Office (as well as reality).

ANOTHER LONG-TERM HOMELESS CAMP CLOSING, JUST IN TIME FOR SUMMER WEATHER
It must seem that there are too many homeless camps to count, especially considering Shift’s reporting on camp closures in Spokane and Burien in just the last week, and catchy names must be in short supply. There has long been a “Jungle” encampment off I-5 in Seattle, and now Tacoma claims the same name for its own camp, with the Tacoma News Tribune reporting its city’s Jungle “is slated for removal, marking the second abatement of the encampment in the past year, following one last June.”
You can read more about how camp-closing veterans are preparing to adapt again here… Shift, Tacoma News Tribune.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT LAST WEEK
LAST WEEK'S NEWSMAKER INTERVIEW...
King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn joined us for last week’s Newsmaker Interview. Dunn discussed why he believes taxpayers should cease funding the three-year-old agency, which is supported by various government entities. He shared his thoughts on the “Housing First” policies favored by liberals, stating that they have been unsuccessful and that KCRHA’s growing bureaucracy has yielded poor results. Dunn also expressed his disappointment in the failure of the liberal establishment to recognize the flaws in their approach and suggested alternative solutions. Read more.
