THIS WAS THE BEST KING COUNTY DEMOCRATS COULD DO WHEN CREATING A MASSIVE BUREAUCRACY TO COORDINATE THE WASTING OF TAXPAYER MONEY ON HOMELESSNESS?

CONTROVERSIAL CEO IS OUT OF KING COUNTY JOB AFTER LESS THAN TWO YEARS OF BREAKING RULES AND ACCOMPLISHING LITTLE

It what would likely make a great case study for why a consultant should not get to write a job description for themselves, MyNorthwest reports that “Marc Dones has stepped down as CEO of the King County Regional Homelessness Authority after about two years leading the agency.” Unfortunately for King County taxpayers, the Dones’ tenure was actually closer to the five years the agency pointed out in his going-away statement, “Mx. Dones has served as CEO since 2021, and was deeply involved in the design of the agency from its first inception in 2018.”

Much more will be written about the costly mistakes of how King County underwrote Dones’ involvement in the creation and initial running of the KCRHA. For now, you can read more about Dones’ self-glorifying tone for how hard the work has been here… MyNorthwest.

REMEMBER THE DEMOCRATS WHO WILL KEEP WORKING TO LEGALIZE DRUGS - LIKE AG CANDIDATE MANKA DHINGRA

Many legislative Democrats (especially those representing potential suburban swing districts) are hoping that the headlines coming out of the all-drugs special session — that they made drugs illegal again — is all they will need to survive their next election. The media is certainly helping them with that, if you looked just at those headlines, but a massive problem still exists for those on the Left who now want the drug issue to go away and those on the further Left who want to keep bringing it up until they get their way and hard drugs are legalized.

Such is the case with Attorney General wannabe and current State Senator Manka Dhingra, who looks at all drug users as victims while falsely claiming in the Spokesman-Review that on the one hand “(W)e have asked our criminal justice system, for decades, to solve all our problems,” while correctly noting that 38 years of Democrat governors signing all state budgets has resulted in the “largest mental health institutions in our state are our prisons.”

You can read more about how misguided Seattle Democrats worry far more about who will be arrested than about whether they are guilty and should be arrested here… Spokesman-Review.

SPECIAL SESSION IS OVER, BACK TO NEXT YEAR’S GOVERNOR’S RACE

The speed (in a 1-day special session) of the Democrats’ finally passing a bill to almost punish public drug use – an issue they had only been facing since 2021, when the Democrat-run State Supreme Court legalized drug possession – has allowed the non-drug-focused political establishment to return to the potential horserace for governor in 2024. The folks at the Washington Observer celebrated that by writing about not one, but two gubernatorial polls. You can see more at a free version of the Observer some speculation why Governor Jay Inslee might have thankfully decided to finally step off the stage here… Washington Observer.

MEANWHILE IN ARLINGTON, CITY RE-DEFINES “DRAG” AS POLE DANCING FOR MINORS - WITH “BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS”!

It’s hard to even make up the lengths that some people will go to get attention for their cause, and that could perhaps be the only reason for the report coming out of MyNorthwest.com that an “all-ages drag show on Mother’s Day at the Arlington restaurant and bar ReMyx’d became the center of controversy after footage emerged of some performers using a pole, wearing stripper heels, and gyrating sexually on the floor during several dance routines with children in attendance.” You read more about the all-age appropriateness of the featured “bottomless mimosas” here… MyNorthwest.com.

SHERIFF MAD THAT ‘CATCH-AND-RELEASE’ IS NOT JUST FOR FISH IN SPOKANE COUNTY

The folks at KHQ had the good fortune to run across Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels at a time he wanted to talk about why crime is going up in his county: “14 percent of the people who are booked into the Spokane County jail right now, are released immediately. That’s unacceptable, these are people law enforcement have determined need to be removed from our community for the community’s safety, and they are put back on the streets before we’re even finished writing the reports.”

The sheriff went further, pointing out that “Because there’s no penalty for committing a crime, there’s really no reason for people to stop, no reason for them to change their behavior, because no one is holding them accountable.” You can find out more about how public policy could be changed to actually benefit public safety here… KHQ.

TOLLS GOING EVERYWHERE

Even when you get off the beaten path, the high costs of government will seek you out, as Center Square reports with the news that “Washington state is contemplating an increased toll rate for the Hood River Bridge to help finance a $520 million replacement bridge expected in 2031, with some scenarios doubling the price.” That’s seems like a pretty big boost for a crossing a bridge that connects a lot of Eastern Washington (and Oregon) agriculture traffic with their markets.

And as one expert on the subject points out, “it seems like no matter what, crossing from Oregon into Washington is going to cost you in tolls.” You can read more about prices going up here… The Center Square.

ISN’T IT STRANGE THAT BOB FERGUSON WANTS DONORS TO MAKE THEIR COMMITMENT TO HIM FOR GOVERNOR, WHILE HE IS STILL ACTUALLY JUST EXPLORING HIMSELF?
