The High Price of Progressive Tolerance. Seattle’s radical policy of decriminalizing the crimes committed by homeless offenders is a disaster. The streets are no longer safe as progressive ‘regressive’ leaders continue their dangerous experiment of handcuffing the police and letting criminals run free. Let’s just look at the past three weeks to illustrate. (Shift WA)

“The waves of dysfunction that have roiled DOC under Gov. Jay Inslee’s watch are too much to tolerate,” says a Seattle Times editorial that calls for reforms in our state Department of Corrections. Citing the death of inmates at the Monroe Corrections Complex, the early release of thousands of inmates, and falsely claiming books were being used to smuggle contraband, the Times state the DOC is in a “cycle of failure.” (Seattle Times)
Is Evergreen College an education experiment that has failed and should it be closed? Should the tax money spent on Evergreen be spent on more proven methods of educating the next generation? Citing the campaign’s failure to capture the attention of the voters, John Carlson writes, “the sun has set on Inslee’s candidacy.” In a party that revolves around identity politics, Carlson believes Inslee being a straight, white, male has been a negative factor. Along with not being able to raise money, there have been too many instances where Inslee has appeared “like a big goof.” (Crosscut)

There are many problems with the Crosscut article by Katie Wilson, general secretary of Transit Riders Union. We will simply focus on her belief that the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s is correct that we need to cut global emissions in half in the next 10 years. Wilson believes that for Seattle to meet these goals there will need to be a “transportation revolution” in Seattle. This belief has been roundly criticized by many, including the 2018 Noble Prize in Economics (on climate change), William Nordhaus, who believes Katie Wilson’s approach would bring greater harm to the planet and people than if we were to do nothing at all. In the hotly contested contest to become Spokane’s next mayor, Nadine Woodward has been endorsed by an important law enforcement organization. In a race that has largely focused on public safety, the support of the Spokane Police Guild is considered a boost to Woodward’s campaign. Woodward, a former Spokane news anchor, is one of five candidates on the ballot. Current Councilmember Ben Stuckart and Woodward are considered the top two frontrunners. (Spokesman-Review)
