The Morning Briefing – May 12, 2017

Happy Friday, have a great Mother’s Day this weekend!

Happening In Olympia

Seattle income tax advocates may finally be put to rest by lawmakers in Olympia. As people in the liberal city continue to attempt to circumvent the constitutional ban on an income tax, lawmakers have taken notice and are moving to stop the efforts. The bill proposed by Rep. Brandon Vick (R-Vancouver), one of two proposed for the special session, “takes the law and makes it clear. It removes the ambiguity. It says income means gross income, net income, capital gains, adjusted gross income, and it goes as far as to say to the courts to interpret this broadly..”

Jay Manning, former Chief of Staff for Gov. Gregoire and director of “cult-funded SuperPAC,” is seeing another lawsuit. His PAC, “People for Thurston PAC,” was largely funded by JZ Knight (who claims to be channeling “Ramtha”) and is seeing its second lawsuit for campaign finance violations that occurred in 2016.

Sound Transit may finally be put under investigation, after Senators Steve O’Ban (R-University Place) and Dino Rossi (R-Sammamish) requested one be opened in a letter to the Senate Transportation Committee and the Senate Law and Justice Committee. They want the agency investigated for misleading voters in developing a “systematic effort to confuse and misrepresent the impact and cost of the ST3 authorization to legislators and the public.”

Western Washington

Former U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan throwing her hat in the ring for Seattle mayoral race. She is  joining a rapidly-growing group of people running the city’s top post.

After three months of polluting Puget Sound, West Point Treatment Plant is back to normal operations. They are finally in compliance with state and federal regulations after dumping 235 million gallons of untreated wastewater into the Sound and have, shockingly, made it through the ordeal without a single protest raised from liberal environmentalists.

Eastern Washington

Where are the Dems’ leadership in the fight for the Hanford clean-up? Hanford’s clean-up requires a lot more than just a press release and the Dems have yet to prove they’re willing to do much more than that..

Eastern State Hospital is being sued by the brother of a man who died while under care of the hospital. The wrongful death lawsuit says the doctors, “did not attempt to identify the cause of Mr. Peters’ paralysis and did not administer medical care or treatment for him.”

Chancellor of WSU Tri-Cities is stepping down. Keith Moo-Young is likely to remain in the role until 2018 when his replacement is chosen.
