The Washington State Department of Transportation’s (WSDOT) failures continue to position it as the most incompetent agency in state government. The latest in WSDOT’s long list of botches is its failure to bill thousands of toll customers over a year-long period.
A WSDOT spokesperson blamed the error on a “computer glitch” and confirmed that it impacts 8,200 vehicles.
The problem impacts 160,000 trips over the 520 and Tacoma Narrows bridges, and on the I-405 freeway.
Many commuters were shocked to open their mail and receive a WSDOT bill for trips made over the course of 2015. Making matters worse, the bills listed a due date of two weeks.
Due to public backlash, WSDOT is giving commuters extra time to pay their bills (though no written agreement has been sent out).
WSDOT did, however, say it was “very, very sorry about this.”
Given the agency plethora of blunders, “sorry” just doesn’t cut it anymore. Simply put, WSDOT has proven time and time again that it needs a complete overhaul.
So when will Jay Inslee do something that “disrupts” WSDOT?
