This weekend, we celebrate Independence Day. Unfortunately, we are not celebrating the end of the 2015 legislative session. Here, at least, are whispers that may or may not have been (ok, it’s the latter) overheard in the state Capitol Building this week. Enjoy this FridayFunny… and this 4th of July weekend!
- Democrat state Rep. Ross Hunter, the House budget writer, to his fellow Democrats: “It’s embarrassing, but what are we supposed to do? It’s been obvious for months to everyone except our crazy labor and enviro friends that our state has plenty of money for a fair budget. We all know that our demand for a billion in new taxes was just nuts. But eating crow and admitting that Andy Hill and the Republicans were right all along, that’s harder than getting a budget done…

- Jay Inslee to Rep. Ross Hunter: “I asked for over a billion in taxes last December, including my favorite, starting a state income tax. I told people I would veto a budget without my new taxes. Now, I’ve basically signed the budget the Republicans gave us in April, done the exact opposite of what I said. Can anyone tell me when that happened, that the Republicans knew this budget stuff better than me?”

- Jay Inslee to Democrat House Speaker Frank Chopp: “I didn’t get one tax I wanted, the ones I demanded in December. Not cap-and-trade, not a capital gains income tax, even though we kept calling it an excise tax. Not even my fuel mandate to raise gas prices and force people to take transit like our environmental friends want! How am I supposed to spin this? If I can’t spin this, that’s three strikes, and I’m out.”

- Rookie Democrat state Sen. Pramila Jayapal to any Senate Republican that might happen to walk by her and accidentally stop to listen: “I refuse to limit Initiative 1351 in any way. I don’t care that we are blowing a $2 billion hole in the state budget. We’ve lost this year to you Republicans… and we have to bring something back for big campaign donors at the WEA, or they might run someone against us in the primary.””

- A WEA lobbyist to Senate Democrats: “What have you all done for us? Remind me why we pump millions into your campaigns every election cycle? If you all don’t backtrack on your agreement to delay I-1351, I can’t promise we’ll keep filling your pockets. At the very least, get our testing bill passed. Can you manage that?”

Oh I’d love to see Democrats get reacquainted with primary elections…
I’d love to see Jessyn Farrell wake up at 5 AM to having to debate prep against a transit advocate, a WEA union boss and a socialist – only one of those four I have any respect for. He he, ha ha.
