Shift has committed itself to shining a light on a variety of subjects over the past few years, and one that has been very popular is our weekly review of Governor Jay Inslee’s calendar (the latest analysis is here, and more can be found in our archives). It has been very illuminating to realize how little time our “green” governor puts in at the office – as opposed to fundraising.
Now, courtesy of the Seattle Times we know the answer why – it turns out that Inslee is actually retired!
This nugget came to light in a story done on the tax returns filed by Inslee and his Republican opponent Bill Bryant. As the Times noted, “Inslee’s financial life has remained relatively simple, his returns show. In addition to his gubernatorial salary of about $170,000 in 2015, he’s getting a $43,000-a-year congressional pension.
That’s right, not only does Inslee receive “about $170,000” in taxpayer salary for showing up to work anywhere between 8 and 15 hours a week – a great gig if you can get it – but he supplements those earnings with retirement pay from Congress.
Must be nice to be able to double dip like that on the taxpayer dime.

Flush him in November.

Good luck with that. Shift mentions Inslee’s Republican opponent only when Shift has to do so, like here in the setup to this complaint about the non-story of Inslee receiving his legal compensation for having served Washington state for many years in Congress.
When the most rabidly partisan Republican site in the state can’t even be bothered to puff their own Party’s candidate for governor, you can be pretty sure it’s a lost cause.
