Senate Transportation Committee Chairman Steve Hobbs (D-Lake Stevens) is working extra hard to sell himself as a moderate, as he promises to find a middle road of support for his massive government expanding transportation budget. “I believe we need a more moderate, centrist approach,” Hobbs said. Democrats are moving forward with their legislation to bring socialized medicine here to Washington. In an effort to help give Jay Inslee a boost as he heads to Iowa for more campaigning, Senate Democrats advanced a single payer health care bill before the cutoff date. The bill will strip away private insurance plans leading to fewer, not more, insured. (Washington State Wire)

The Seattle City Council is expected to vote later today to allow taller building and denser construction in 27 neighborhoods and other areas. More zoning questions are ahead for the council, and politicos expect that issue to be a key voting issue in this year’s elections. “I certainly see this as an issue in the elections,” said Sarajane Siegfriedt, a Lake City resident. “We have an opportunity to elect a council majority that supports neighborhood planning.” (Seattle Times)
Eastern Washington
After Senate Democrats voted to mandate schools teach state approved sex ed curriculum from K-12, some Yakima parents asking the obvious question. Is that too young? “It starts teaching sex ed in kindergarten, and for that reason alone, I’m strongly opposed to it,” said Rep. Jeremie Dufault (R-Selah). A number of communities are battling with ways to deal with the Democrats imposing Seattle values on the rest of the state. (Yakima Herald)
