Thanks to cuts pushed by the WEA and Democrats in Olympia, two Washington state charter schools will close at the end of this school year. Liv Finne with the Washington Policy Center admonished lawmakers saying, “Our policymakers deny charters fair and equal funding, and once again the low-income, minority families who preferred these schools for their children have been left out in the cold.” (Washington Policy Center)

Bainbridge Island City Councilman Ron Peltier wants the third Sunday in June to be a celebration in honor of those who did not have children. Peltier proposed the, “I Didn’t Reproduce Day” last week and, in defending his ordinance idea, assured the other members he was serious. It’s an absolute head scratcher as to why government moves so slowly. (Kitsap Sun)
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan announced new steps that could lead to more towing of vagrant RVs and vehicles parked on the city’s streets. “We have an obligation to protect public health and ensure that our neighbors are not living in inhumane conditions. And we will hold accountable those who prey on vulnerable people for profit,” Mayor Durkan said. Seattle will adjust the criteria of what meets the definition of a health hazard to include on a car or RV that has been towed. (KING 5)

The Washington State Department of Transportation earlier this week released four options to improve intersections with U.S. Highway 12 as it travels through Walla Walla. The presentation was part of a roughly $250,000 study that started last year. According to the project’s consulting engineer, “The purpose of the study is to identify current and future alternatives for access and accessibility north and south of Highway 12” (Union-Bulletin)
