Happening in Olympia
Yesterday the Supreme Court listened to arguments related to the question of whether legislators are subject to the same disclosure rules that apply to other elected officials. “The [Public Records Act] PRA is explicit: the Act covers every state office, department, division, bureau, board, commission, or other state agency,” wrote the attorney general’s office. “Individual legislators and their offices plainly fall within this broad coverage.” (The Olympian)
The Washington State Department of Labor investigation into the fatal Seattle crane collapse cleared one of the five contractors. “L&I has closed our investigation into Seaburg Construction Corporation,” said L&I representative Tim Church. “We found no violations involving that specific company, and no fines were issued.” (MyNorthwest)
State Attorney General Bob Ferguson is once again prioritizing efforts to boost his name ID with liberals for a run for governor by suing President Trump. The lawsuit is over a recent EPA decision to revert to state-approved standards for several pollutants in public rivers and streams. “Trump’s EPA cannot change important water quality protections at the whim of industry interests,” Ferguson said in a statement. The Lacey City Council, after discussing a camping ban ordinance during a work session last week, is set to vote on it tomorrow. If passed the ordinance would prevent people from camping or living in RVs on public property. “It’s a mechanism to deter this activity associated with public places,” said Lacey City Manager Scott Spence. Earlier this week, Central Washington University President James Gaudino informed the campus that Katherine Frank is no longer the CWU Provost and Vice President. Gaudino said in the announcement that he will serve as the interim provost “until he can retain support services from The Registry.” (The Daily Record)
