AG Bob is at it again

Happening in Olympia

Last week Olympia lawmakers grilled Sound Transit on whether or not misled the Legislature and voters about ST3. The laundry list of issues plaguing Sound Transit over the years has cause many to ask if Sound Transit board members should finally be directly elected. (MyNorthwest)

Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a federal lawsuit to block a recent revision of the Affordable Care Act by the President, claiming it discriminates against women. The rule change allows insurers and employers to opt out of covering contraceptives. (The Seattle Times)

Western Washington

Seattle City Light paid off-duty cops over $7.8 million over five years to provide traffic control and security work. Seattle’s Finest Security & Traffic Control was the sole provider of off-duty officers to Seattle City Light over that five year period. (The Seattle Times)

Sound Transit is getting in the way of Bellevue’s attempt at building a permanent mens’ shelter due to a land dispute. Sound Transit has plans to build its light rail maintenance facility on the same plot of land Bellevue was hoping to build the shelter. (MyNorthwest)

Eastern Washington

The Monroe Street “Road Diet” in Spokane has been met with conflicting views by members of the Spokane City Council. The project includes $4.6 million in state and federal safety grants to reduce the number of lanes from five to three. Yesterday a resolution put forth by Councilman Mike Fagan to force a public vote on the project was put on hold. (The Spokesman-Review)

Although Walla Walla City Council Position 3 candidates Myron Huie and Devon Wootten have found a few areas of agreement, they’ve also found plenty to disagree on. For example, both candidates have different visions for what the role of a council member entails as well as the best way forward on election reform. You can read more about their platforms here.
