Happening in Olympia

Senator Kevin Ranker (D-Orcas Island) wants to ban Atlantic salmon fishing in the Puget Sound following the significant escape of salmon this last year. He is proposing a bill that would ban new leases on Atlantic net-pen farms as well as prevent any current permits from renewing. (The Seattle Times)

The Supreme Court ruled that a woman convicted of theft and drug crimes in 2011 may take the bar now that she has graduated from law school in Seattle. (My Northwest)

Rep. Kristine Reeves (D-Federal Way) was awarded “Legislator of the Year” this last weekend for the work she has done supporting veterans and families of veterans. (Washington State Wire)

Western Washington

Seattle’s Key Arena renovation is one step closer to being reality. The Seattle City Council will vote on a revised Memorandum of Understanding on December 4th and needs five votes in order to pass. (The Seattle Times)

Eastern Washington

Washington State Potato Co. has settled a discrimination claim and will pay a civil penalty of $100,000 as well as implement changes to their business procedures in order to prevent future discriminations, including posting information about workers’ rights as well as implementing further staff training. (My Northwest)
