Western Washington
Cary Moon and Jenny Durkan are putting the final touches on their respective campaigns for Seattle Mayor. Both candidates have spent time on the campaign trail apologizing to their supporters for being successful because well, they’re running for office in Seattle. (The Seattle Times)
The winner between Durkan and Moon won’t have long to celebrate before they’ll need to get to work. The elected mayor will succeed Mayor Tim Burgess right after the election results are certified. The winner will also become only the second female mayor in Seattle’s history. (MyNorthwest)
The 45th LD State Senate race is far and away the most expensive race in Washington State history. The two candidates along with independent political committees supporting or opposing each candidate have already spent $8.5 million. (The Seattle Times)
Eastern Washington
Rep. Mary Dye (R-Pomeroy) has a liberal challenger vying for her seat in the state House of Representatives. Jennifer Goulet is running again for the 9th Legislative District’s House seat after losing to Dye in 2016. (The Tri-City Herald)
Washington state paid a hefty price of $2.6 million to settle a legal dispute related to the installment of new computer systems at community colleges in Spokane and Tacoma. With the original cost estimated to be $100 million, the system is several years behind schedule and at least $10 million over budget. (The Spokesman-Review)
