Pat Kohler, director of the Dept. of Licensing, announced her resignation following January revelations that the agency was sharing some personal data with federal immigration officials. The department now requires a court order before releasing information to officers investigating immigration violations. (Seattle Times)
President Trump nominated Brian Moran, former chief deputy in the state Attorney General’s Office, as the next U.S. Attorney for Western Washington. Moran, who carries bipartisan support, spent 15 years at the Attorney General’s Office, where he worked under both Christine Gregoire and Rob McKenna. (Seattle Times)
The state appeals court ruled on what should be obvious: Left-lane camping is a traffic violation. Whether it’s mindless or intentional, just get out of the way already. (Everett Herald)
Western Washington
Working Washington, a group that compared Jeff Bezos to “a subprime mob boss lording it over a company town,” wants Attorney General Bob Ferguson to charge Amazon with a felony. What exactly was Amazon’s crime? Working Washington says the company unlawfully intimidated public officials after Amazon chose to pause construction within Seattle due to concerns over the head tax. “This is ludicrous,” former Attorney General Rob McKenna said of the Working Washington’s demand. He continued, “This is so irresponsible. I haven’t seen anything like it since Councilmember [Kshama] Sawant accused two police officers involved in a shooting of murder.” (My Northwest)
Some are questioning Logic Amen’s lyrical choice after his recent album included portions about shooting up a high school. Amen is the assistant principal of Tacoma’s Lincoln High School and a part-time rapper. (Tacoma News Tribune)
Eastern Washington
Veterans and their families are upset after Walla Walla city councilmember Yazmin Bahena refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance at meetings. Bahena has not stood to salute the flag during the pledge at several council meetings since she took office in January. (Walla Walla Union-Bulletin)
