Don’t worry, it’s court-ordered

Western Washington

A Seattle Police officer is under investigation after safely apprehending a dangerous man who shoplifted an ice axe. Although no injuries occurred, the officer is being investigated for “failure to de-escalate,” with a recommendation of two days suspension without pay – a turnabout that raised the dander of just about every news radio host in town. (My Northwest)

Seattle city councilmember Mike O’Brien was kicked out of an after-party commemorating the opening of the new Nordic Museum. Said a manager with Pacific Fishermen Shipyard, the host of the event, “If you are referring to his being escorted off our property, spilling his beer, and his wife’s derogatory comments towards our business customers, yes.” O’Brien told the Times, “I was physically thrown out of this event because of the policies I advocate for.” (My Northwest)

In head tax news, Dick’s Drive-In says the best way to solve the homelessness problem isn’t by sending money to city government, but by giving money directly to charities with proven track records. “The city isn’t showing that it’s very good at combating that homelessness with the spending they’re doing,” said Jasmine Donovan, executive vice president of Dick’s Drive-In. Police arrested about a dozen demonstrators who were targeting Chase Bank for its investment in the proposed Trans Mountain Pipeline in Canada. The pipeline project would be an expansion of an existing pipeline, running from Alberta to British Columbia. (Seattle Times)

Eastern Washington

“I see wasted water,” Cong. Dan Newhouse (R-Sunnyside) said regarding court-ordered spills at dams on the Snake and Columbia rivers. “There are some things we are already experiencing — the lost power generation, lost dollars, lost economic benefit,” Newhouse said. (Tri-City Herald)
