Happy Friday!
Happening In Olympia
“Safe” heroin injection sites are one step closer to being banned in Washington. Now that the State Senate passed SB 5223, sponsored by Senator Mark Miloscia (R-30) it will move into the House to be considered.
Military service members, veterans and their families are a step closer to receiving pro bono legal services after a bill passed unanimously through the House. HB 1055 would mandate that the office of military and veteran legal assistance recruit and train volunteer attorneys as well as help identify programs to aid those who have fought or who currently fight for our freedom.

Destruction The Seattle Times is calling “Katrina-scale damage” at the West Point regional wastewater-treatment plant in Seattle has no end in sight. After flooding hit the treatment during a February 9th downpour, the plant sustained damage – and continued to do so, dumping nearly 300 million gallons of waste into the Puget Sound. The plant has now sustained $25 million in damage, at least, and has no estimated date of repair. If this were a privately owned facility, there would be protests and press conferences every day.
Sound Transit 3 has yet to acknowledge that their inflated car values are making car tab fees unreasonably high, despite strong public backlash – including an editorial from The Seattle Times. Sound Transit 3 has been using a formula to calculate their car tab fees that has caused “sticker shock” for many… yet the agency itself does not seem to see the problem. The State Legislature is pulling together bills to combat the high car tabs. “There really needs to be some honesty in this,” State Senator Dino Rossi (R-45) said, echoing many who have similar thoughts.

Spokane might be getting a major bioscience hub as the Avista Corporation begins to lay its tracks. The Catalyst Project is still in the early development stages, but if it is erected it may be connected to the University District by a $10.6 million Gateway Bridge project, which had previously been hailed as a waste of money by many.
Out of Left Field
Governor Inslee hid behind closed doors to hammer out an employee benefits plan with unions before taking two bills to the Washington State legislature to solidify the pact they made. Rather than working with legislators to work out a deal to legalize the employee benefits the union wanted, the Democrats are using the deal as leverage. As explained by Rob McKenna, they’re using the “the job is already half-way done, it would be silly not to complete it,” argument to pass through what they want – skipping proper procedure to hold onto their closed-door bargaining methods. Our voters deserve better.
Liberal hypocrisy is at its best with Nick Hanauer – who, as KIRO’s Jason Rantz says, “hates big money, but will buy elections.” Hanauer recently said he would “donate enough money to that campaign to make sure that we would win,” in regards a campaign to raise the property tax $55 million a year in Seattle to fund Mayor Ed Murray’s plan to combat homelessness. Reminder: Hanauer doesn’t live in Seattle and would not be subject to the tax he is championing so heartily. Hanauer showcased liberal deception perfectly when Rantz was able to point out Hanauer’s recent support of the Honest Elections initiative. Hanauer’s $10,000 in perfect light when he donated $10,000 contribution helped the organization, which now claims it, “took on big money, and won,” to win. This is a liberal double standard in its finest form.
