Happy National Flag Day

Happening In Olympia

SB 5239, which would reverse the Hirst Decision, has passed out of the Senate for the third time. The bill restricts the use of wells in Washington, requiring homeowners to look to their counties for solutions or to fund their own solutions if they hit the limit of their wells.

The Nature Conservancy is attempting to get another carbon-tax measure on the next ballot, despite voters state-wide repeatedly rejecting a carbon tax over the last few years.

Washington’s tax incentive for film productions will expire at the end of the month. The bill to renew the incentive is currently sitting in the House Finance Committee despite bipartisan support. “I’m frustrated. It’s going to cost us jobs,” Rep. Marcus Riccelli (D-Spokane) said.

Western Washington

More protests are planned at Evergreen this week, including a rally for support and an event titled, “Free Speech Evergreen State College,” which was previously called, “March Against Evergreen State College.” Evergreen moved their graduation events to a different location amid the threats they have been receiving.

Eastern Washington

On Monday, the Safer Spokane Initiative backers turned in 5,000+ signatures to the City of Spokane to get a rail measure added to the November ballot. The measure would prohibit the transport of coal and oil through the city.
