The Morning Briefing – February 27, 2017

Apparently Governor Inslee spent the weekend talking about the need for early education with Jennifer Garner. We imagine from the look on her face that this is the moment when Jay told her that he plans on running for President:

And we bet it sounded a little like Casey Affleck’s speech for Best Actor last night:

Happening In Olympia

A partisan effort to recall Senator Doug Ericksen (R-42) is set for a hearing on Thursday. If Judge Raquel Montoya-Lewis decides the case is valid, the group saying Senator Ericksen is flouting his duties as Senator while he serves as President Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency communications lead will be able to start collecting signatures for their recall effort.

Sen. Ericksen responded over the weekend:

LOL

“Democrats are going to crawl across broken glass on their knees to go vote in 2018,” according to Governor Jay Inslee (D), who is apparently beginning his play for a presidential run in 2020. Democrats convinced that they will boomerang back into office after this last wave of Republican successes seem to forget one thing about Inslee being their favorite for president: you actually have to show up to work if you want to run the country.

Liberal Bias

In a not-so-shocking turn of events, far-Left organizing group FUSE feigned outrage over Republican Members of Congress not holding town halls during Congress’ recess period. They used their protests as a recruiting tool to get angry Liberals to volunteer in the 45th District’s special election. Funny that they didn’t include our two Democrat U.S. Senators who are also declining to host events – and have a long history of avoiding them – in their outlandish appeals.

Western Washington

An unprecedented rate of tax hikes in Seattle Mayor Ed Murray’s first term set the stage for his re-election campaign platform. More taxes. Despite the absence of a plan for how to use the additional revenue, the Mayor kicked off his re-election bid by announcing two new tax increases.  “There’s probably not one city in this country with this many tax increases in such a short time,” said Eugene Wasserman of the North Seattle Industrial Association. Only in Seattle…

Sound Transit based car tab tax rates off of inflated values in a thinly veiled effort to siphon more money from taxpayers. Whereas Kelly Blue Book would value your 1-year-old car at 70% and your 2-year-old car at 59% of its original price – Sound Transit is taxing you for 95% and 89%, respectively, of the sticker price… which is outrageous.

Out of Left Field

While Western State Hospital teeters on the line of losing federal funding, Governor Inslee is hypocritically honored by a national mental-health advocacy group. Inslee’s administration has earned nearly $10 million in fines because of their failures with the Western State Hospital, but that hasn’t stopped Mental Health America from clapping him on the back as they feign ignorance to his failures in mental health advocacy.
