Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, who still has yet to step down after documents came to light alleging Murray sexually assaulted his former foster child, signed an ordinance into law to remove criminal background checks from the list of acceptable review items for landlords in Seattle.
Evergreen State College will be adding a civil discourse class as a graduation requirement. The course will consist of, “panel(s) discussing the myriad of the way we challenge each other to learn.”
Bertha is finally gone after being stuck underground for far too long. Construction on the Alaskan Way Viaduct is expected to be completed sometime in 2018 and the tunnel is expected to open in 2019.
Eastern Washington
Spokane County will be hiring more correctional officers and taking on new federal prisoners in order to fix a budget shortfall, as housing federal prisoners will bring federal money into the prison. Three new correctional officers will be hired and the county will be adding enough federal prisoners to bring in an estimated $2.85 million a year in federal funding.
